March for an Environmental Revolution!

The Campaign for Eco-Veg*nism | 04.12.2008 20:53 | Animal Liberation | Climate Chaos | Ecology

On Saturday, masses of vegetarians & vegans will descend on London for what will surely be our biggest ever mobilisation on environmental grounds.  http://www.ecoveggie.org.uk

WHAT`s IT ALL ABOUT??
The planet is being devastated by many of mankind`s greedy, selfish actions, but we know that there is one industry which devastates, pollutes and kills more than any other. The livestock farming industry must be stopped in their tracks; governments must stop supporting and subsidising the animal farming industries responsible for so much of our planet`s destruction; and people must realise that their choice of diet is critical to the survival of the planet!!

The future IS vegan!! We are on our way there, but at the current rate of progress, we may be too late to save the planet! We will certainly be too late to save many of our habitats most rich in wildlife, such as rainforests - the lungs of the earth. Billions of individual wild animals will die and many species will become extinct. People will also pay the price, particularly those in the poorest nations, where floods, droughts etc will be responsible for much death and destruction. And all this because many trillions more animals will continue to suffer and die only to end up on people`s plates!

But it doesn`t have to be like this. WE ALL have the power to speed up progress towards our vegan future!

10,000 environmentalists will be in London on Saturday. These people care about the planet, people and wildlife. Many of them will be unaware of the true extent to which animal agriculture is responsible for destroying the planet they love. We can potentially change the diets of many 1,000`s in one day! YOU can be the catalyst for the new, more enlightened environmental movement which will fully embrace plant based diets as the solution to many of the catastrophes facing the planet!!

Join us on Sat 6th December at the VEG*N CLIMATE MARCH

NEW MEETING POINT!
Previously, we were meeting at Hyde Park, but we`re now meeting at Grosvenor Square from 12 noon(Bond Street or Marble Arch Tube). Don`t forget that over 10,000 people are expected - Veg*ns who wish to march together should look out for lots of veg*n banners/placards etc. Arrive as near to 12noon as possible and you`ll have little problem finding other veg*ns! Hold your banners up high to help other veg*ns find you. The march is expected to set off at 1pm.

BANNERS / PLACARDS
We want to make as big an impression as possible on the other marchers, on the general public and with the media. Please make yourself some simple banners or placards, the bigger/bolder/more colourful the better, use your imagination! If you can`t think what your banner should say, use a slogan from the eco/climate leaflets produced by the national veggie/vegan groups or have a look at their websites. If you don`t carry a placard of some kind(and you don`t intend to leaflet either), nobody will know who you are and why you`re marching!!

TRANSPORT
If you havn`t yet arranged how to get to London, there are still seats left on the coaches that are travelling from towns and cities across the UK. You can find your local transport contact on the Campaign against Climate Change website  http://www.campaigncc.org/local.html

An environmental revolution truly is within our grasp. On Saturday, we`ll take one giant leap towards our goal. Be there and be part of history!!!

Rubbish

04.12.2008 22:14

We cant rely on politicians to change things for the better because they are easily bought off and even the green party can be bought off by the corporations that wreck the environment. People looking for real change should avoid this demo that will be infested with trots and green party members and get involved with grass roots campaigns and use direct action to accomplish an eco vegan anarchist society. Only through anarchism can we accomplish a better world for ourselves and future generations.

re: the comment "Rubbish" by "Wont be attending":

The article doesn't even mention politicians, you dumbass. It's an awareness raising exercise.

How about you quit whinging and whining about what other people are doing and post some information about what you are doing?

the agricultural revolution lead to the industrial revolution

"The livestock farming industry must be stopped in their tracks; governments must stop supporting and subsidising the animal farming industries responsible for so much of our planet`s destruction; and people must realise that their choice of diet is critical to the survival of the planet"

This is a rubbish market-based solution to a social problem, mass veg*nism will only lead to greater population growth through more efficient feeding of battery humans.

Not forgetting that some foods very popular with veg*ns, like rice, are responsible for enormous amounts of the worst GHG: methane.

Choice of diet is critical, but the rest of your analysis is pure fantasy.

proper debate

fairly fed up with glib comments on Indymedia ( hard to tell the trolls, state, and idiot sloganeering activists apart at times ) with no arguments, or simplified arguments to the point of uselessness.

There has been a lot of debate imports, meat ( farmed and wild ) and vegan diets, plus population numbers, ammount of consumption and waste ( check catering and retail for instance ), and of course, animal cruelty. Worth looking at some of the debate with what Simon Fairlie and others have written/spoke about and various boards around the web ( sadly nothing of substance on Indymedia )

here are some interesting points re feeding ourselves. BTW some places are not suitable for having a vegan diet e.g. see Inuit or Mongolia cultures, reindeer herders etc..

Anyway, I am going to sit down to a fully skipped nut roast dinner in a bit ( with all the skipped trimmings ).

There are a fair few people who will be on the climate march, I imagine, that haven't thought about the food issues in depth ( vegetarians and the dairy industry perhaps, or importing rice vs home grown / land ownership / wild food e.g rabbits, deer ( sometimes seen as a pest in terms of land management ).

Sometimes I think there are those who would rather we starve....the puritans and the rich
