2nd Gaza Protest In Wrexham!

Wrexham Peace and Justice Forum protest again at the continued violence and bloodshed that is Israels invasion of Gaza !

More than 60 people again braved the cold in Wrexham, N. Wales this Saturday in continuation of their protest against the Israeli invasion of Gaza.
The protest, the second of its kind, was organised by Wrexham Peace and Justice Forums who heard Councillor Marc Jones, of Plaid Cymru, and
Janet Ryder, the North Wales AM, adding their voices of concern over the invasion.
They were united in seeking an end to the violence on both sides, calling the
800 deaths suffered in the invasion totally disproportionate.
Both again, urged Wrexham people to join a boycott of Israeli goods including fruit, vegetables and herbs.
More than half Israel's exports are to the UK and many are available in local supermarkets.
Some activists went on from the protest to make their opposition to Israeli goods being sold locally in a known supermarket.

WREXHAM DEMO AND TESCO ACTION - ANOTHER REPORT

Saturday lunchtime: After a vigil and a couple of speeches to a crowd of 50 or so, and some planning for a future public meeting, about a dozen people headed off for Tesco's Xtra unethical store in ones, twos and threes over a period of about an hour, I think. Not sure what all of them got up to inside and outside, but it seemed to cause consternation amongst management and security. From what I saw, several trolleys were filled with Israeli goods and covered in stickers. Hundreds of leaflets were handed out, along with Boycott Israeli Goods postcards. In the fruit and veg section, four trolleys full of Israeli goods were used to block the aisle, with large numbers of staff and bouncers then helpfully completing the blockade. Someone 'died' next to the Israeli herb selection and was bodily carried through the shop towards the entrance, loudly advising shoppers not to buy Israeli goods, until the bouncers spotted a photographer and were forced to turn round and go all the way through the store again to a back exit. When I left, people were leafleting in the car park with others still inside the store.

LEAFLET TEXT

Dear Shopper

Did you realise that when you buy products from Israel, you are supporting the Israeli state, directly or indirectly? Most fresh Israeli produce comes from a company called Carmel-Agrexco, which is 50% owned by the Israeli government. Much of its produce is grown and packed on illegal Israeli settlements by exploited Palestinian workers.

Over 1,000 people have been killed in Gaza in recent weeks, including many children, and Palestinians have for decades suffered illegal occupation, discrimination, hardship and killings at the hands of the Israelis, who have stolen Palestinian lands and water supplies, destroyed livelihoods, moved illegal settlers onto the stolen lands, and are building an Apartheid wall which separates Palestinians from their land, work, schools, shops and hospitals.

Sainsbury's, Tesco and many other supermarkets have so far refused to stop stocking Israeli products, while Marks & Spencer directly supports Israel. Sainsbury's has said: "We feel it is our responsibility to offer choice to our customers... If customer demand declines on any product for any reason, [Sainsbury's would] decide whether to discontinue it due to lack of popularity."

The supermarkets might not care about the morality of selling goods produced by a company complicit in war crimes, but they do care about their profits. As with South Africa, you can help bring an end to Israeli Apartheid and demonstrate your objection to Israel's aggression by boycotting all Israeli goods. Look for country of origin on all packaging, refuse to buy any products from Israel (or labelled West Bank), tell your shop or supermarket why you are doing this, and ask them to stop selling Israeli goods.
