Maura Harrington was one of the first people to campaign against Shell's plans in Mayo back in 2000. In September 2008 she went on hunger strike due to the arrival of the world's largest pipelaying ship, the Solitaire. She refused to end her hunger strike until the Soiltaire ship left Irish territorial waters. It took 10 days to leave.
