Cop Steve Bettley from the BNP membership list is sacked

bash the bnp | 21.03.2009 15:17 | Anti-racism | Liverpool

PC Steve Bettley, whose name was on the recently leaked membership of the British National Party, has been sacked. Serving police officers are not allowed to be members of the BNP, because it is said to conflict with their duty to represent people equally.

Steve Bettley claimed he was on the list because a family member had signed him up without informing him. But a Merseyside Police investigation found that he was knowingly a member of the BNP and gave the racist scumbag the boot.

I don't think you are actually allowed to be a member of any political party if you are in the police.

I think cops are only banned from membership of racist parties

21.03.2009 22:36

As far as I know, cops are allowed to be members of political parties unless those parties have a racist agenda, like the BNP does. But they aren't allowed to be "actively" involved in politics.

story from 2004:
 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3930175.stm
ACPO bans police from joining BNP
"Under this policy, no member of the police service, whether police officer or police staff, may be a member of an organisation whose constitution, aims, objectives or pronouncements contradict the general duty to promote race equality. This specifically includes the British National Party."

See also here from 2003:
 http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/blunkett-wants-to-stop-bnp-members-serving-in-police-734605.html
At the moment, there is no automatic ban on political activists joining the force, but applicants must declare any political party membership prior to recruitment. In addition, officers are barred from taking an active role in politics or "any activity which is likely to interfere with the impartial discharge of his or her duties, or which is likely to give rise to the impression among members of the public that it may so interfere".

He wasn't really a proper cop

This bloke was the driver for the Chief Constable. Obviously a close confidant of the Chief Constable. Who is this Chief Constable?

Here it comes

22.03.2009 07:53

We all know what the BNP are, however repressive governments always start repression on un popular groups, as someone who lived and had 3 brothers executed by Saddam's army for supporting the opposition then I warn you, cheer and shout in support all you like, but one by one the list of political enemies will be added to, last week George Galloway was refused to visit Canada.
I say get ready Uk here comes your Saddam.
In Iraq we had a saying for those who supported Saddam, we called them turkeys who sang because the chickens were getting eaten.....
When you are not allowed to work because you support a un popular political party then the Uk is on the same path.

Brazzier Mohamid Hussain

Aren't we missing the point here

22.03.2009 11:15

Does it really matter whether or not the police consists of BNP members or not. At the end of the day the orders they follow (and they ALL follow them BNP or not) will serve the same purpose they always have and that has never been to serve our interests (exact opposite more like it) As for the previous post from our friend in the Middle East .I feel there is a point to be taken from what he says as all Governments are likely to try and root out any (few) elements capable of independent thought from the police department. Thats what an efficient police force is all about. Got a job to do no questions asked.

Pointless

most organisations have equal opportunities policies

22.03.2009 11:42

I don't think the police are unique in having an equal opportunities policy.

The filth have so much power over ordinary people that it is of vital importance that they don't have racist views.

I think having racist BNP cops would accelerate us towards totalitarianism.

The right for a normal person to be dealt with fairly by the police far outweighs the right of a cop to join a racist organisation.

Question to all

22.03.2009 13:03

The police are concerned that hostile private opinions may have an adverse effect upon the ability of an officer to perform his duties without predjudice. Do you not think it inconsistent that the police allow muslims to join the force given Islam's often violent hostility to homosexuality.

Opinions...

Double standards.

22.03.2009 22:42

If a police officer can be sacked for being a member of the BNP which, weather you like it or not is a legally registered political party then surely all Muslim officers who are members of hard line Islamic groups (that openly or privately support or terrorism) should be given the boot as well.

What about the METS advisor on Islamic terrorism who has been convicted in his absence in his home country of terrorist offenses, shouldn´t he be sacked ? Or the racist Muslim officer officer that told 2 white men he would arrest them if they walked down a certain street simply because it was a "asian neighbourhood" , as far as i know he still has his job.

It is double standard's and it is bang out of order. While i don't personally support the BNP i do support the bloke's right to freedom of association and the hypocracy and double standards of some of the people who post on here is beyond belief. We are supposed to live in a free and democratic society, but that it seems is just a myth these day's.

You all claim to be against discrimination when it suit's you, but then when it comes to a person who does not share the same belief's as you, you are the first to openly advocate his discrimination and gloat over it. TOTAL HYPOCRACY HERE PEOPLE.

The police are suppose to be non political and neutral (which we all know is bo**ock's) and serve the WHOLE community equally and with out predjudice (Also bo**ock's).
There has to be one rule for all or no rule what so ever. We can't just pick and choose the rule's and who they will or wont apply to because that person doesn't agree with what we believe in.

The irony of all this is, it is the left who are actually responsible for the massive rise in support for the BNP. It's the left's mandate of "Democracy and freedom, just so long as your on our side" that is driving people into the arms of the BNP.

The other week a group of UAF attack a BNP leafletting team with a hammer ! Do we live in England or Zimbabwe ? When people here about this bunch of UAF retards attacking people just because they are in the BNP it has the total opposite effect of what they wanted to acheive. It show's the UAF to be undemocratic, violent, desperate, scrared and totally un able to counter the BNP threat legally. But worse still it makes the public feel sympathy for the BNP and gives what they say credibility

The only way to stop the BNP is to face them at the ballot box not attack them or smash up their property. It's this kind of crap and the over bearing mill stone of political correctness hanging round our necks that has revived the Right and made the Left a laughing stock.

Equall rights for all.
