Getting to the truth: Demonstration Saturday 4 April 12pm Bank

elli maci | 03.04.2009 11:35 | G20 London Summit | Repression

Demonstration: Saturday April 4
Assemble 12pm (sharp) Bank of England

Over the last week across London there has been a series of demonstrations and protests against the policies and programs implemented by the G20 leaders.

We are taking to the streets to express our compassion with the family of Ian Tomlinson who tragically died during the 1 April protests at the Bank of England. We are calling for an independent public inquiry into the instances of police violence that occurred though out the week and to establish to true circumstances of his death.

We wish to communicate our disgust and anger at the violent and brutal policing of the G20 demonstrations.

The press once again created an atmosphere of fear and violence in the lead up to the protests, preemptively justifying the police violence that occurred. They also misreported and lied about the circumstances of the tragedy. We recognise that for many communities the reality of police violence is a daily occurrence. The demonisation of communities, like the demonisation of protesters makes police violence seem normal.

As the crisis deepens and continues there will be increased resistance - from factory occupations to demonstrations, strikes and people coming together on the streets. We need to speak out now the right to defend our freedom to protest, our communities and our dignity.

the time for talking has passed

we´ve been talking for far too long. the obsession with what the ´public´or the media thinks makes us ineffective. its time for action- interpret that as you will.

If you can't make the protest send the MET a kettle

03.04.2009 14:56

Disposing of your old kettle in an environmentally friendly way is difficult. Since the police seem to like kettles so much help them out by sending your old kettle to:

Metropolitan Police Service
New Scotland Yard
Broadway
London
SW1H 0BG

or if you prefer the city police to receive your kettle

Bishopsgate Police Station
182 Bishopsgate
London EC2M 4NP

Please do this during the week starting Monday the 6th of April and Pass the idea on to anyone you know who has an old kettle they want to get rid of or who wants to protest against police tactics. A few thousand kettles should restrict their mobility somewhat.

What about putting A3 picture of this man in the Centre boaded up...

03.04.2009 20:50

What about putting the three A3 picture of this man in the Centre boarded up monument  http://www.javno.com/en/foto.php?id=19&rbr=13134&idrf=560858 and also a picture of the same man seen outside the cordon being question by five Riot Police with his hand up in the air. I'm not sure where this picture is...

Just been past the place the messages put up has been taken down by some people so someone need to bring some wall paper paste. There's enough room for A3 posters...

And utmost respect for comrades who have risked life and limb in confrontation with police - I know from personal experience here in brighton what bullying cowards police are I support and praise all anarchist comrades and others hurt by their violence

The time for talking is never over

What the police did on the 1st was sickening but the time for talking is never over. Violence only breeds violence.

false dichotomy

04.04.2009 10:13

Action and analysis are both important.

In the case of the police they will violently attack any effective action, whether it is violent or pacifist. So in that sense it's not always true that 'violence breeds violence'. As compassionate humans we do have a responsibility to minimise harm. In some cases, though, that might mean violently challenging a bully in order to put a stop to their violent tyranny. In this case the bullies are the police, and they do need to be taught a lesson. As non-violently as possible, but some violence will be necessary.
