Death by design?

Jolly Roger | 23.04.2009 09:03

Government fail to remedy the asbestos existing in schools. Children and teachers at risk of cancer.

At the conference of the NASWUT, the teaching union, it was reported that children and teachers are at risk of health problems, even death, from asbestos still in school buildings.

In the period from 1980 to 2005, at least 178 teachers died from asbestos related disease. An unknown number of children could contract disease caused by asbestos in later life.

Despite the government being aware of the existence of asbestos in school buildings, it fails to address this, or to take action to remove it. The failures mean that it is behaving in a gross and reckless manner. This negligence could mean that it stands to be prosecuted for manslaughter in respect of deaths caused by diseases of which asbestos is responsible. Will this ever happen, or will there be a cover up and authorities allowed to get away with it?

Why are people, children especially, put at risk in this manner? Is this the New World Order?.

Having worked in asbestos insulated industrial facilities I know that generally it is policy to leave asbestos in place as long as its dust is sealed from the environment (a think coat of paint is enough for this) and labeled, either on the item or on plans. This policy is so because more dust is created by removing the asbestos than by leaving it, probably combined with consideration of the cost of properly removing and disposing of it by trained specialists which would come out of the school's budget detracting from pupil containment, er, I mean education.

While I don't agree that having asbestos labels only on plans and not on the item is enough, nor is it appropriate to have asbestos where it is likely to be disturbed (think anywhere a child could knock and break it), I think each item of asbestos should be considered on its own risks. The choice between leaving it sealed in place and removing it should be decided on which will cause the least dust and health problems.

Asbestos everywhere

There's asbestos in pretty much all the public buildings from that period. As the poster above notes, the key thing is deciding whether it's safer to leave it in or not.

There's also only a small group of companies that charge a fortune to go in wearing hazmat suits and take the stuff out.

But the government is in the process of rebuilding or refurbishing all the schools. Wouldn't be surprised if, in a few months time, the ministers reannounced that as a wonderful anti-asbestos measure...

(As for the idea the "New World Order" is responsible for mesothelioma... oh dear).

Re the last post, the New World Order are known to be keen to save money and kill off large numbers of the population in order to have control. What better than to have a ticking timebomb to kill off the children in schools? I doubt that they would allow this in the public schools which house the rich kids.

There are some dodgy things going on with vaccinations too, again it is the kids who are at risk.

lol at NWO conspiracy

Surely the NWO wants to have *more* people to consume crap, concrete over the planet and to order around?

I don't understand this conspiracy theory obsession with the NWO wanting to reduce the population.

I think reducing the human population would be a good thing (as long as it is done without causing suffering to anyone of course!).

Maybe the conspiracy theory comes from origins in right-wing bible-bashing America where they think they are doing God's work by popping out as many brats as they can onto the planet?
