The stench of a modern Genocide

STARVATION!! The worst weapon for Genocide

[TamilNet, Saturday, 25 April 2009, 18:29 GMT]
No food shipment was sent to the safety zone after 02 April.
[...]

As WFP ship is denied permission to deliver food that is late and too little anyway,

As Times (UK) correspondent Jeremy Page is deported with neither publicity nor exposure of the truth that the sun bathing 'journalists' cook up stories to please the defence department, which is the source of 'all info available' in Sri Lanka re: 'the biggest hostage release operation in the world',

Outrageous response of UN to humanitarian crisis: Diaspora scientist
[TamilNet, Saturday, 25 April 2009, 14:33 GMT]
Children as young as 12 are forcefully recruited and given with guns to fight on the front line alongside LTTE, Guardian.co.uk reported Saturday, 9.49 GMT, citing Gordon Weiss, UN spokesman in Sri Lanka. “Whom are they guarding”, Tamil circles asked. “It is outrageous that the UN which has no means to stop Colombo’s genocide or immediately take responsibility of the captured and even reluctant to talk about the high casualty but only ‘leaks out’ figures, to raise this matter at this juncture in an imbalanced way, when Colombo is bombarding the remaining civilians in the so-called safety zone”, said Thomas Aloysius, senior scientist in Bergan, Norway. “If what the UN official says is true, it is deplorable, but aren’t they too responsible for the tragedy by their inaction in prevailing upon Colombo to stop the war. The LTTE always ask for ceasefire”, he asked.
[...]

The World sleeps.

The hunger strike in parliament square hits the 18th day but is nothing compared to the forced starvation of 150,000+ (...given that the population that was 'captured' after the recent offensive to be denied any access from anyone are being fed something somewhere)

The 'International Community' stinks!

Missed opportunity

27.04.2009 08:41

What a missed opportunity! Despite decades of the LTTE forcibly conscripting children, Latuff has only just latched on to the situation, and even then bizarrely only covered one side. Perhaps the gross human rights abuses of these children doesn't interest him much.

Maybe that the LTTE has been conscripting children is a lie and you are an idiot to believe it. Maybe you missed an opportunity to keep you mouth shut and went on venting the same propaganda under which the genocide is made possible. Shame on you!

Criticising a cartoonist for being simplistic is like criticising a poet for being succinct. That is where the art lies.

On the subject of Sri Lanka though I would highly recommend the above novel. It doesn't attempt to explain the conflict at all but it does give a sense of the terror and trauma it has caused. I'd rate it as one of the best, certainly one of the most poetic anti-war novels.

unfunny nasty little man

28.04.2009 18:42

It's not just that he's simplistic - he's downright not funny!

Ted Rall, for instance, is funny. Steve Bell is funny. Also, neither of these contributed to a competition designed to make fun of the Holocaust.

Genocide, huh? Yep, Latuff knows all about that. At least he knows about helping people who deny it took place:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Holocaust_Cartoon_Competition

"The event was staged in response to the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy,[1] and to challenge Western accounts of the Holocaust.[2]"

"In that introductory message for the contest, Hamshahri denounced what they called Western hypocrisy on the freedom of speech, alleging that "it is impossible in the West to joke upon or even discuss certain topics related to Judaism, such as the Holocaust, and the pretexts for the creation of Israel.""

"On February 14, 2006, the editor in chief of Hamshahri commented in Persian that "the purpose of establishing such a competition is not to offend or ridicule anyone, but to do a discussion about the realities of the Holocaust."
