Poor mans Tamiflu

Danny | 27.04.2009 10:55 | Health

Media scares about flu pandemics cause anxiety and hypochondria. The best cure for that is a good cup of tea.

Tamiflu is the Roche brandname for Oseltamivir, which is stockpiled by the government. Oseltamivir is made from Chinese Star Anise, taking 90% of global crop. Chinese Star Anise which can be bought in health food stores and Chinese supermarkets. I've heard that a cup of Chinese Star Anise tea is just as effective as Tamiflu. That may or may not be true but it does you no harm and it should relieve any anxiety and hypochondria. During the initial avian flu scare Chinese Star Anise disappeared from the shops pretty quickly. It's something that activist healthfood co-ops should consider getting a stock in, if only to meet the extra demand at times like this.

Any activist who visits a Chinese supermarket should also buy themselves a durian fruit, the king of fruits. Although it is delicious it isn't effective against flu but you will soon be able to figure out why it is useful.

Make sure its Chinese Star anise& not others like Japanase star as its toxic&

27.04.2009 16:19

for incense only. I havent read anywhere about drinking the tea as effective, shikimic acid is what does the trick. UK has stockpiles, apparently gingko & gum tree are also possible good sources of shikimic acid.
Someone tried to put up some more verified info this morning, but it was taken down, maybe too much info, I will try to find time to help them condense it abit& hopefully this will please.
Check Flu wiki page for further info, especially their htmls.

Green Syndicalist-

lovely...

"..... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia."

Raise a stink about it

Green Syndicalist is absolutely correct to warn away from Japanese Star Anise. There are some more recent reports about Star Anise toxicity due to imports mixing the safe Chinese with the unsafe Japanese plant. However it is one of the Chinese 'five-spices', and at least in my local shop it is sold bagged and labelled next to Japanese star anise, I've never noticed any side effects with it so make sure your supplier knows their anises.

Some countries ban durian from subways and public buildings, although not the UK. There are a few ways to use it. Firstly, the fruit skin is a spiked so it would make a formidable weapon, but I wouldn't recommend that since falling durian kill many people each year. The first time I saw one being opened was in a factory. Within five minutes the entire factory evacuated, except for me and the owner of the fruit who proceeeded to eat it. I have a very poor sense of smell, which can be a great advantage at times, but if you are using it in an action then you may want to block your nostrils first.. Now bear in mind if the police arrest you with this in your lunchbox, then they have to store it and return it to you afterwards, it just a legal fruit after all. I think they will be less willing to arrest you because of the aroma, but you may have to be prepared to eat some of it. It is surprisingly delicious if an aquired taste. Next, it can fired from a catapult or you can pulp it into water to produce a safe, natural stench liquid that can be fired from a supersoaker Finally, it isn't smelly when it is frozen so you can walk into an office, leave some frozen fruit hidden somewhere and then leave before the fruit melts. Oddly enough, it doesn't smell any worse when it is rotten, the pungence diminishes - trust me, I've got some month old durian in front of me. I recently smelt something slightly more pungent for the first time, human vomit which had went mouldy. There is a commercial product called 'Liquid Ass' that is meant to be as odious but it is expensive and I haven't tried it, but you couldn't pass it off as innocent and it could be dangerous to eyes or whatever.

Best natural stench liquid

27.04.2009 22:17

is comfrey water. Just put comfrey leaves in water, seal up and leave for a couple of weeks (or longer if possible). Smells like shit with knobs on. Small plastic bag. Burst it (but not with your shoe). Leave. Has been known to shut McDonalds down. I guess using piss instead of tap water would speed up the soaking process and smell worse too, but no experience of this.

Also makes an excellent liquid plant feed if diluted. That's what you soak comfrey leaves for, isn't it?

Sorry, but don't know what it does for 'flu.

Skunk

I've never smelled a skunk

27.04.2009 23:13

I have no idea how smelly a skunk is. I know you can wrap 'skunk weed' in endless layers and never hide the smell, but it smells sort of nice in comparison to the the smells we been discussing. A disgusting smell can seem weak, or a less disgusting smell can seem strong, but durian instantly provides both.

I have smelled comfrey water recently, I am using it to charge biochar, along with urine. I've also played around with boiled cabbage and raw fish, all the folk pongs. In my opinion that smells more disgusting than dead squirrel, but just not as strong. And obviously disgusting smells are in the nose of the beholder, but I bet you if you smelled durian then you may change your opinion.

Thai plantation Durian is 'fresh' in the shops here in summer, but you can buy small frozen portions all year around. Indonesian durian varieties taste better and tend to smell stronger but I've only seen those varieties in Amsterdam. Seriously, please try it for yourself and report back here. You can buy small portions for a few pounds.

To put this in context, the smell of a sulphur stink bomb is merely unpleasant.
