i was actually considering voting for them as at least they talk some sense. But got the leaflet today and realised they are incompeten like most people who aim to be in public office.

They've used istockphoto's for 4 testimonials which mean they are completely made up. I've nearly used the old couple in some of my own work.

I realise pretty much every testimonial is fake (i've worked in media for 15+ years and can't remember how many times i've done it). But, they must realise they are going to get spotted being in politics. If they can't work this out, this simple really easy thing, a schoolboy error, then I can't have any confidence in them at all.

see what i mean - incompetent. And i don't know what they are going on about the "ruse" being uncovered. Anyone who uses stock image libraries would spot it in 2 seconds.

Totally incompetent. If they can't even oversea the production of a leaflet then they can't do anything right. All public servants and their wannabes are completely incompetent. They've failed to survive in the commercial world due to lack of talent, so have to go the subsidised world of government instead.

Reggie, I don't understand why this is a deciding argument against fascim for anyone, but if you are only appalled by fake models then okay. The BNP are fake whatever angle you photograph them from.

They MUST have known their literature will be under the spotlight like any political party. But its no the first time, the manchester conjestion charge people used fake testimonials too with stock photos.

The tactic isn't odd Danny, it's bog standard. Supporters of political parties too old or infirm to slog round canvassing often avoid putting up any posters (otherwise the opposition won't knock) then keep them on the doorstep for as long as possible. I used to know one elderly Labour member (old style) who always regaled the Tories with sherry, then used to gleefully boast "It was that Mrs X again. She was here for 47 minutes" or whatever.

The tactic is not one I could endure, especially as I'm opposed to ALL of them, but if you're planning to give the BNP a cup of tea, do make sure it's spiked with a very powerful and persistent laxative. I did say the tactic was..err..bog standard.

Vile racism and facist outlooks are oaky, but using stock photographs is what turned you off the party. Oookay.

I never knew slowing down canvassers was a recognised tactic. I canvassed for a peace candidate once, maybe some of the old codgers that engaged me in pleasant banter weren't as friendly or as lonely as I'd assumed. The only thing I was told was always start at the top of a block of flats or at the end of a cul-de-sac, in case you are attacked. I did get to see some party shenanigans, such as the Labour council renegeing on the lease for the candidates office at the last minute. The local BNP don't canvas here, they really are just gangsters without any pretence of respectability. What we do get in Scotland is lot's of 'independents' who use a black thistle to indicate that they are fascist, apparently unaware that that's been used for years to identify actions by a local anarchist group.

I quite often end up saying the opposite of what I intended but you know, most people here are smart enough to figure that out for themselves without me correcting myself constantly, which seems a bit vain even by my standards.
