The Home Office does not have it all its' own way, people resist by any means that work!

Cherbal family from Blackburn are still with us

"All we want to do is to be allowed to stay in the UK and to make a life for ourselves here. We will never return to Algeria." Ismail Cherbal

The third attempt to remove Ismail Cherbal and Safia Aouf, nationals of Algeria, and their British-born daughters Sonia aged four and Aya aged 15 months [Ismail has asked us to point out that previously the younger child was incorrectly described as their son] was aborted literally at the last moment.

In a phone call, shortly after the removal was cancelled, Ismail explained that he believed this had happened because of his forceful protest on the way to the plane.

"On Sunday, we were taken to Heathrow in a small coach with a six-strong escort and a doctor. They drove us straight on to the tarmac beside the plane where we waited until shortly before the flight time. Once more, my children and my wife were taken ahead but when they took me from the coach I sat on the tarmac and refused to move. Members of the escort and a couple of policemen spread-eagled me on the ground, handcuffed my hands behind my back and sat on me. They manhandled me into the plane at which point, the children became upset.

"By this time, the paying passengers were beginning to board and I was pleading with them to help; some of them heeded my cries and protested that they would not fly with the family and the removal was cancelled."

Thanks once again for all you help and support

Eric Tcheujoue, still here, campaign fights on
"Thanks immensely to all who supported Eric Tcheujoue campaign by all means possible. Eric did not fly as scheduled yesterday Friday May 29, 2009. We felt Eric was left in limbo by his representatives. Fortunately we managed to serve paperwork to a High Court Judge who was prepared to look into his case and ordered 7 days temporary injunction.

"Please campaigners, the battle has not ended as further removal plans may come up. Whatever the case I will keep you al updated."

Once more many thanks

John Bosco Nyombi, nearly there!
John has won the latest and he hopes the last round in his battle to stay in the UK
" Hope you are all doing well! sorry I have not been in touch for long as I had no news to say but I'm glad to let you know that I won my case to stay in UK and I had to wait for about 10 days to see if the Home Office will appeal against the court's decision luckily they have not appealed as far as I know, but now I'm waiting to hear from them and I don't know how long it will take.

I am not celebrating until I have in my hand, written permission to stay in the UK."

Thanks so much for all your support,

John Bosco Nyombi

Government to face legal action by returned asylum-seeker
The Home Office is facing legal action after it forcibly deported a gay Ugandan asylum-seeker when his case was still under review. John Bosco Nyombi is now seeking damages against the Government after British judges ruled that his removal was "manifestly unlawful" and ordered his return.

Blaise Kamba has left the UK

"Blaise Kamba was removed on Tuesday 26th May to DR Congo. It was arranged that he would be met at the airport. However, Blaise was arrested immediately. We know he is now out of prison and is sick.

"Blaise's two young sisters are unwell, numb with the shock of losing the much loved brother who has been their carer and father figure since they were little girls. Knowing he was in the hands of the security forces who had held him in 2005 has been a torture for Leitishia and Jeanine.  Blaise was an example to everyone.   At a young age he had taken on the responsibility for his sisters and held his family together.  The destruction of this much loved family group has caused outrage everywhere.

"Campaign will fight on to keep Leitishia and Jeanine in the UK and bring back Blaise."

Jacqui Lovell ~  jacqui.lovell@developingpartners.org.uk

Stockton North MP Frank Cook said he is appalled by the plight of Blaise Kamba, who was returned to DR Congo on Tuesday and immediately arrested.

NCADC have been pointing out ( as have other NGOs) that deportees returned to Nigeria, were highly likely to be detained on arrival until bribe had been paid!!!

Nigerians claim bribes to accept [Irish] deportees
Authorities at Murtala Mohammed International airport in the Nigerian city of Lagos are demanding bribes from gardai before accepting illegal immigrants who are deported from Ireland. Officials at the airport refuse to allow members of the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) to repatriate Nigerian deportees who arrive on board special charter flights unless they receive payments or gifts, including bottles of Irish whiskey.
