BNP leaders press conference stopped by anti-fascists - pics

BNP leader Nick Griffin was forced to abandon a press conference outside of Parliament today after anti fascist demonstrators intervened. Griffin was less than two minutes into the press conference when a group of over 50 protesters appeared. He was pelted with eggs before being bundled into a car by BNP security.

Surely that demonstration was illegal. I do hope the BNP Legal Team is on the case right away to bring the culprits to justice.

While they are at it, they could have the "Security" arrested for failure to show their Security Industries Association Tags clearly for public view.

I am shocked that the BNP arranged a demonstration at all. I am sure Mister Griffin cleared it with the relevant Police Officer prior to turning up to HIS demonstration. Since he has not taken a seat in Parliament it is hardly relevant to have a demonstration there. Since he has not yet taken his seat in Europe, he is just an ordinary citizen.

There is one thing this woman does not understand:-
The british public will put up with absolutely anything except someone trying to bend the game towards their own goals. The MPs expenses is a good example of this.

You can easily beat the BNP through PR and constructive argunments. Even a child can do it.
Adopting an attitude of overriding an election and saying it not correct will not work with the british public.

I'm not going to shed any tears for Nick Griffin when he gets egged, but I am agree with the poster above: throwing eggs isn't enough, the BNP have to be beaten on their arguments.

I'm under no illusions - Nick Griffin is a fascist, the BNP have to be opposed, and sometimes that means being prepared to have a scrap. However, Griffin is also a fairly astute politician. I was watching the BBC coverage when this happened earlier on today and there's a danger that the BNP could use demonstrations like this to their advantage. The party has been fairly skillful at manipulating the emotions of disgruntled white working class voters who feel left out of the political process and are feeling the strain of the recession, especially job insecurity.

It's not enough to call them scum. We have to expose them as such by challenging their policies and offering a coherent alternative. So far, the UAF position has pretty much been 'anyone is better than the BNP'. But who does that leave us with? The mainstream parties have already discredited themselves pretty effectively, and so far a left alternative that makes sense to people hasn't emerged. There's also the fact that many people (myself included) have no faith in the electoral system, or feel totally disilllusioned with it. Unfortunately, a low turnout at these types of elections is always going to mean far-right voters gain a larger percentage.

I also think the issue of free speech is a very tricky one. I think there is an argument to be made for saying if you really believe in free speech, then that means that you have to tolerate the arguments of people whose views you find deeply offensive. But then of course i understand that someone like Griffin having a mainstream platform is potentially very dangerous.

I really hope your photos of anti-fascists don't end up on Redwatch, as has happened before! That would be dangerous for those snapped (though not for you) - who could then end up targetted by the fash, whether their name was known or not.

A innocent bystander was assaulted by a member of the Unregistered BNP Security Team. As reported in the times. Innocently walking along when a member of Mister Griffins team knocked her to the ground.

Would it be possible for the ITV camera crew that captured the assault to publicise it? After all if SKY can show a violent assault resulting in a woman being knocked to the ground I am sure that ITV can. Unless they edited it out from the earlier rushes.

It remains an offence, in law, to provide security without being registered SIA members. It is also an offence to assault people. Perhaps the BNP had forgotten to have their demonstration facilitated.

You can be damn sure that a lot of people not caught up with the international socialist movement will take note and silently move towards the bnp.

Context is king, so it is not as straight foward as saying that political violence is wrong - but the bnp has not slaughtered millions (yes MILLIONS) of non white people for oil -yet.

Where were the eggs for the Labour party?

Where were the eggs for the trotsky lovers and those others who brush the deaths of millions (yes MILLIONS) of Russian/slavic/ukrainians under the carpet?
