"We stand on the threshold of a new electricity era"
The interview was conducted by Jens Hartmann 11th July 2009, 04:00 clock. Dehen Siemens Executive on energy in Africa
. Munich - The Siemens Group is playing in the consortium DESERTEC an important role. Wolfgang Dehen Executive Board, responsible for the energy sector, sees the project as a prelude of a new electricity era.

Wolfgang Dehen:

The interest is great. In addition, Siemens will be eleven more companies participate. We bring our technological expertise by René Umlauft to our CEO for the area of renewable energies. Because this is what the initiative for a sustainable supply of power in Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa based on renewable energies to provide. The aim of the current in solar thermal power plants in the desert regions of North Africa as well as wind generated. These are areas in which we can bring our expertise. The same applies in addition to the energy using the energy-efficient high-voltage direct current transmission or just the HGÜs.

What are the transport losses of electricity to Europe?

Dehen:

An example: In our HVDC project in China over a power of 5000 megawatts (MW) of hydroelectric power in the interior in the mega-cities on the coast of over 1400 kilometers. Thanks to our current highway which 95 per cent in the consumption centers. For AC lines would be about 400 MW less - equivalent to the performance of a medium-sized power plant, or from 160 wind turbines. Due to the lower transmission losses, we save the environment around three million tonnes of CO2 per year. In DESERTEC would have the power over a distance of about 2000 kilometers transported. Such distances are responsible for our current highway no problem. In the future, many of which will be built. We will be electricity from renewable energy sources can produce where they most effectively can be done - Solar in Northern Africa, the wind on the high seas - and then the centers of consumption in transport.

How high would you rate the network costs? 50 billion euros?

Dehen:

Currently, it is much too early to think about the cost to be discussed. It is initially a question of technical and economic approach. Technically, the long stream connections feasible. Also in Germany, where the policy is the framework for the electricity highways has created, we expect orders for pipes in the offshore park in the North and Baltic Sea generated electricity there, where it is needed, namely in the south of Germany . The expected order volumes for this depending on the route from 100 to 500 million euros.

What influence could DESERTEC on the energy of the future?

Dehen:

DESERTEC can be an important element in a sustainable energy mix will be. The project has the goal by 2050, approximately 15 percent of European electricity needs. That would be for solar energy a significant increase, but states that 85 per cent by other methods of energy production must be met. Only a diverse energy mix guarantees that we have electricity available whenever we need it. This will, in future, far more frequently the case, just think about the millions of electric cars, the roads in the future they are. Your batteries will help, for example, the quantities of electricity, which produces strong winds are calm for caching. Or do you think of modern building technology, information and communication technologies, the boom of LEDs. Electricity is the ubiquitous energy. We stand at the threshold of a new electricity era. This is also good for the environment, because electrical energy can produce more environmentally friendly, highly efficient, and with low loss are consumed. The energy efficiency is increasing significantly - a significant contribution to climate protection.

What volume of Siemens expects DESERTEC?

Dehen:

Of course, we want to maximize the share of the contract volume. Finally, we can not just build highways electricity. Even steam turbines, solar receiver and the control technology, so the key components for solar thermal power plants and wind turbines, Siemens has in the portfolio.

What is this?!

A) No explanations - just quotes - what is the position of the author on that? Silence suggests persons' enthusiasm...?

B) Siemens is well known shoot of Nazi Germany (and that is where it grown out of - literally of its' crimes)

C) Why the fuck we have to be enthusiastic on switching from one form of slavery (system of centralised production, incl. centralised energy delivery systems - so the 'great' capitalists, exploiting engineers thought and peoples work can claim the right, or even ownership of it (!) and above all pursue the system of social control, by controlling those means) to the other, where still banks will cash on peoples' work, by making them (the people) pay the capitalists for the work which they never done just booked it in their accounts.

The only thing here is to smash those panels at any time of their construction. Yes, I praffer to live or day in times of scarcity, than in time of treating as like laboratory animals, with no value, other than items giving fun to the bankers.#
Fuck off!!!

neo-colonialism 09 Version - Club of Rome

14.07.2009 14:38

the german scientist are not alone. they work behind a very broad network of scientist and intellectuals under the flag THE CLUB OF ROME >

 http://www.clubofrome.org/eng/cor_news_bank/11/

 http://www.munichre.com/en/homepage/default.aspx

The club of rome was responsible in the 70s for what was called "the limits of growth" research... then then led to the de-growth movement ... problem is that since then has always been very unclear the relation between the corporate scientist and corporate interests....

However in this case IS VERY CLEAR. Neocolonialism. Basically taking the sun from Africa and divert back to Europe...

Additionally it is very problematic the big scale infrastructure to move energy from and to... how much energy would be dispersed in this process ?
