Far Right Extremeist Plan Riot in Luton

stan | 20.08.2009 11:19 | Anti-racism

There are moments that our movement of hope is made for. This is one of them.

In a few weeks time, football hooligans, far right extremists and Islamophobes are planning to descend on Luton, with a simple goal - to whip up fear, and religious tensions.

The last time the anti-Islam protesters marched in Luton, gangs of thugs stormed the predominantly Muslim area of the town, smashing up cars and shopfronts along the way - and forcing law abiding men and women to flea or fight to safeguard their homes and families. Riot police had to be deployed and 35 people were arrested. We can't let this happen again.sion and violence. And you won't be surprised to hear that the BNP are involved

I've set up a tool on the Hope not Hate website that lets you contact the people who can stop this violent gathering - the Home Secretary Alan Johnson and Bedfordshire's Chief Constable Gillian Parker. It will take you less than a minute to send a message - all you need to do is click here:

 http://action.hopenothate.org.uk/luton

We only have to remember how BNP supporters triggered the Oldham riot in 2001 to realise the consequences of these actions. We must stop this - we can't let these thugs take control of our streets even for a single moment.

The BNP are actively involved in this protest because they know that whipping up violence and inter-community tension can only benefit them. Chris Renton, a BNP super activist, has helped the hooligans with their website. Marlene Guest, who stood as a BNP Euro candidate in June, will be attending and recently spoke at a local anti Islam gathering. And Martyn Page, treasurer of the BNP's Broxtowe group, has boosted about bringing "hundreds" of people to the anti-Islamic event. The key organiser of the protest has also admitted to attending BNP meetings.

Our society is based on rights and responsibilities - and we have a duty to protect our communities from these organised, violent thugs. If you agree, please take a moment to help us stop this dangerous, hateful event:

 http://action.hopenothate.org.uk/luton

tom, we can stop this violence. We can stop the racists intimidating and attacking the law abiding people of Luton. But I need your help - and just a minute of your time:

Thank you,

stan

Manc

I was expecting a real opposition then...

20.08.2009 14:01

...not some counter-fascist intervention from corrupt political representatives who will ban what they please, when the please, to please what/who they need to please.

I'm referring to the following statement:

"I've set up a tool on the Hope not Hate website that lets you contact the people who can stop this violent gathering - the Home Secretary Alan Johnson and Bedfordshire's Chief Constable Gillian Parker."

Get onto the streets and smash these fascists off them - don't ring up your MP!

EDL Dates (from their website):

5th September 2009: Birmingham City Centre
11th September 2009: Harrow Central Mosque
19th September 2009: Luton .
10th October 2009: Manchester City Centre

@ntifascist

BEWARE - these are provocations .. cool heads needed

20.08.2009 15:27

.. the point of these demos is to get the left and particularly young asians to react violently against 'patriots' so it can be spun by the far right to get them more support

we have to think very seriously about how we react to provocations like this

imho we should NOT attack these demos as

1) they contain people who are rightly and genuinley angry with Islamo-Fascist provocations like the one in Luton, and the role Luton played in the London bombings

2) it plays into the hands of the fascists who want to milk these provocations

In Luton we must demonstrate against ALL intolerence, bigotry and fascism BOTH British and Islamic BUT we must also defend the Muslim areas ( Bury Park) from any attempted incursion

I know this will be contentious, but imho it is important that the front line of this defence be white and british ( or at least mixed ) and we ask young muslims to be cool

In Brum the UAF made a serious error by winding up young muslims which ended up by giving the far right a significant media victory .. this was their aim .. we must not give this to them again

By all means

20.08.2009 15:39

By all means at our disposal do we need to keep the attack up on the far right.
We need to be on the streets like @antifascist said, we need to write to MP's (they have to answer you) write to the papers regularly, get on radio phone ins tell people what the fash are really all about.

Use all means at our disposal - have demos, sit ins, civil disobedience, information stalls, processions etc get out there and let the people know what is going down.

Stan I live in Luton (hooray!!) and I'd like to hear from you please.

well said D02, I helped organise 2 demos against RWB, they were abit

20.08.2009 16:19

hijacked by UAF, but we messed up RWB quite nicely. The BNP do want violence at these events, rivers of blood either way, they love it. So we have to be well disciplined & help defend the majority of good people including muslims. As British government eventually joined the international brigades in the fight against fascism that we won, I plan to bring a multicoloured union jack, nazis shouldnt be able to hide behind the union flag.
UAF did help bring people, but their tactics can be annoying, RWB2008 they condemned antifa then in 2009 they blocked roads & a car was smashed up, but this time it was ok. Come on UAF stop stop trying to control everything, we need to increase democracy to stop fascism

20.08.2009 16:21

Of course wherever the BNP, EDL or any fascist group try to mobilise we need to be there as anti-fascists to oppose them and to defend minority communities, physically if necessarry.

However, its not useless to write to MPs, not everyone who is against fascism will take to the streets to fight it and getting people involved in writing to MPs and small political actions (although it may have no influence on the MP) has the potential draw more people into the anti-fascist movement. We need to make the fight against fascism as broad as possible and make it easy for anyone and everyone to join the fight.

How Many Times...

20.08.2009 17:29

The EDL IS NOT a racist or fascist organisation. We welcome all hues in our ranks.

In fact, this is our new anthem:

'I'd like to teach the world to sing
in perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms
and keep it company''

Repeat to fade....

One Love.

EDL

PS We only have balaclavas and pit bulls cos we're shy.
It's not our fault that bad nazis want to play....

boo hoo.

ed who

the edl has only got any recognition by the reactionary actions of the uaf, helping promote it and draw interest from others, almost causing a race riot in the process.

Any group with right wing views seem to be called bnp, this is innacurate time and time again.

Grass roots work helping the community is much more effective than shouting at non entity festivals and promoting any right wing group by giving them the recognition they dont deserve.

There is social reasons to why people are considering more right wing politics, by shouting and screaming and throwing toys out prams.. you alienate people even more from engaging in discussion.

Serious question, iwas there any thought or discussion about what will be politically achieved and any future repercussions of the action at Birmingham aganst the edl?

Thje extremists of the left.
