Action needed to stop Nick Griffin speaking at BNP rally at Cleveleys

It has been reported that the British National Party's leader Nick Griffin is to attend and speak at a BNP by-election rally to be held at the Frank Townend Centre, Kensington Road, Thornton Cleveleys at 7pm on Tuesday October 13th.
Although the local authority is under no obligation to allow this meeting to go ahead, Wyre Council's chief executive has allowed it, despite the fact that the Centre will be the polling station for the forthcoming Jubilee ward by-election and a rally of this kind at this late stage is inappropriate.
Clearly this meeting needs to be stopped if possible and demonstrated against if not, but first we need to attempt to get it cancelled by appealing to reason. Thus we're asking you all to call the Frank Townsend Centre to complain strongly (but politely), to let them know in no uncertain terms that we find this so-called rally both offensive and divisive for the community.
There doesn't appear to be an email address for the Centre but the phone number is 01253 863369.
Assuming the BNP rally is not cancelled, we will have a demonstration outside the building from 6pm on Tuesday October 13th. Bring warm clothes, banners, placards, whistles and as many of your friends as you can. IF the rally is cancelled, we'll let you know immediately.

No action is required from those who don't wnat to hear him speak. They can go to the pub, home, go for a walk in the country, stay at home making a matchstick model of Fidel Castro or whatever takes their fancy.
Those who wish to hear what Griffin has to say can take action and go and see him in Cleveleys.
What a shame that Indymedia is infested with anti-free speech types who feel the need to control what others can say, do, see or hear.
Those who are under the illusion that the vast majority of the UK population needs shielding from the views of Griffin or anything else should seek psychiatric help. They obviously have a very high opinion of themselves and contempt for everyone else, not a healthy state of mind at all.

Why do 'anti-fascists', most of whom are barely out of school and still relying on mummy to take them everywhere in the Volvo, think that the great adult majority of the UK need them for protection from anything?
I think it would be a good idea for people to be classified as minors until they have entered employment and finished full-time education. This could solve the problem of juvenile 'anti-fascists' who have little or no expereince of the real world and the tolerance of a toddler when it comes to other people's views.

Griffin has as much right to have his meetings as anyone else. As a member of the public and for all I know a taxpayer too, he has every right to use a publically owned hall for his meetings.
Now Mr Todd, try to realise that free speech is for everyone, not just for those who hold views which you and your fellow censorious, priggish and intolerant 'anti-fascists' approve of.
Why don't all the studenty 'anti-fascists' stick to calling dad a fascist when he won't lend you the car for the evening or mum when she forbids you from staying out too late? The vast majority of the UK population doesn't need the disruption and expense caused by your juvenile and expensive street antics.

Both are free speech. Nobody objects to free speech. It escapes you that everybody accepts the BNP can utter whatever filth it wants to. Just because they are free to spread lies and hatred does not mean that people should tolerate their vile and wicked politics.
Saying things has consequences. Like spoilt schoolground bullies, the BNP want to be able to spew out whatever racist facist nonsense pops into their heads. I have no objection to that. I will defend their right to do that. But only when the BNP accepts the consequences of their vile and wicked politics being talked about publicly.
The BNP have had a free ride for too long. Hiding behind the "ooh nobody likes us" victim mentality. Tough shit, its a hard world. If you want freedom of speech then live up to it by being responsible for your actions.

Everybody respects the BNPs right to free speech. This issue never was free speech.
The issue is accepting the consequences of actions. The BNP are a fascist party that manipulate people and promote the breakdown of society.
Nick Griffin is a convicted racist and a member of a fascist party. The consequence of that is that decent people object to him.
See. No free speech issue. Just a matter of not wanting racists and fascist nonsense spouted in a decent, free society. He can say whatever he wants that is his freedom to speak. But people will object that is our freedom to speak.
You really do not get the idea of free speech cutting both ways - or is that just racism?

I object to some opinions of others but I don't seek to stop people expressing them. That's because I understand that free speech is everyone's right, not just people who agree with me.
Sadly, many 'anti-fascists' have a problem with allowing certain opinions to be freely expressed. When you remember than many of them have an adolescent admiration for totalitarian regimes like Cuba and the old Soviet Empire perhaps this isn't surprising.
'Anti-fascists' should realise that they are not needed by the population to serve as some kind of self-appointed free speech regulatory body who decide who is entitled to express their opinions and who isn't. The parents and teachers of 'anti-fascists' have a responsibilty in this respect too.
