UEA climate fraud email story censored by Bristol Indymedia

the truth will out | 25.11.2009 15:23 | COP15 Climate Summit 2009 | Analysis

"It's no use pretending this isn't a major blow. The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging. I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I'm dismayed and deeply shaken by them." Monbiot

In what amounts to censorship of a huge scientific scandal directly effecting the future of global society (including Bristol!) Bristol Indymedia has hidden two articles about the UEA email hack and subsequent debate over the withholding of scientific data relating to global warming and other fraudulent activities at the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit.

This scandal directly impacts all claims that the science of man made global warming is "settled" and therefore effects the claims of activism related to CO2 emissions/climate change and the upcoming Copenhagen conference.

George Monbiot has written in the Guardian yesterday:

"It's no use pretending this isn't a major blow. The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging. I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I'm dismayed and deeply shaken by them."

and

"There appears to be evidence here of attempts to prevent scientific data from being released, and even to destroy material that was subject to a freedom of information request.
Worse still, some of the emails suggest efforts to prevent the publication of work by climate sceptics, or to keep it out of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. I believe that the head of the unit, Phil Jones, should now resign. Some of the data discussed in the emails should be re-analysed"

This really is: "climategate" and as was said over Watergate, the problem was not the crime -
it was the cover up. Bristol Indymedia is certainly pushing and spinning the so called "scientific consensus" on global warming (which in fact does not exist - the science is not settled, in the the causal relationship between human produced carbon emissions and global warming and will probably never be settled - such is the nature of scientific enquiry) - see such stories on BIM as: "COP15 Interview with Cristian Dominguez" etc etc etc.

How can BIM censor and hide such stories? Doesn't this censorship directly contradict the whole purpose and values of Indymedia?

So - if you want to know about this very important story that directly effects the people of Bristol - please read The Guardian or Prisonplanet.com, Infowars etc.

BIM does not want you to know the truth.

Eh what? Sorry but it's headline news across the world!!!

Erm Indymedia is mostly about stuff you don't read in the news - this hack of emails has been main headline news across the world - hardly needs more coverage does it?

social change not climate change... social change not conspiracy theories

25.11.2009 16:19

agree with above post. plus, have you actually read the monbiot article you quote... you know, the one in which he says that potentially dodgy as the emails are they are very far from suggesting that the basic science that links human activities to climate change is undermined seriously... have you read that article? you know, the one you quote... might be an idea... seeing as he makes a mockery of the 'climate conspiracy' idea quite well...

social change not climate change... nah, fuck it, social change not conspiracy theories...

I think Monibot was very critical of the secrecy with the information in the e-mails however, he wasn't disputing climate change. Evidence supporting climate change still heavily outweighs evidence not supporting it, even with large industries lobbying against many studies.

If you could go back to the industrial revolution, when emissions began increasing and drastic changes in the landscape and environment happened, then surely the burden to prove such changes will not be harmful should be on the people who want to carry out there actions which may be harmful to others. Although, the majority of the population benefited from the industry, had it been known it was harmful alternatives could have been found.

Obviously, they didn't have such evidence then, but we do now. It would be foolish to ignore it and continue on an ever increasing course. The problem today is that we all benefit from coal power station, it gives it electricity. However, we could use solar panels for instance to get our power, so our interests are still being served. The problem is the power station will no longer be making money selling us electricity.

We must see if human emissions are to blame, and if not, then make as much as we want.

lets leave this up so we can prod the flat earth brigade

I am a Bristol resident who has no editorial control over Bristol Indymedia, who would like to look at your oooh show shocking allegations

I agree with the comment above that this is worldwide news so the only people who might miss out on your “revelations” are both of the people who use just Bristol Indymedia as their sole source of news to the denial of everything else

You link here and on your identical story which is still up on Bristol Indymedia (at least when I looked) to a couple of Guardian articles that are saying that the leak should be investigated because selective use of the emails is being used by climate sceptics to create a false impression ahead of Copenhagen... hardly earth shattering stuff I think, and the opposite to the impression you are creating with your selective use.

Oh and what about moonbat......
.
“But do these revelations justify the sceptics' claims that this is "the final nail in the coffin" of global warming theory? Not at all. They damage the credibility of three or four scientists. They raise questions about the integrity of one or perhaps two out of several hundred lines of evidence. To bury man-made climate change, a far wider conspiracy would have to be revealed.” Monbiot

Monbiot s piece then turns into satirical send up of the kind of conspiracy nut job world inhabited by some climate truth deniers.

Which brings me on to Alex Jones

who is the proprietor of the other websites you mention. Alex Jones is a conspiarloon American nationalist who has for a long time has been a well funded voice for many of the extreme right wing conspiracy Cause Celebes (11th of the 9th, Poor people crossing borders, Banking cabals with webbed feet etc etc).

So I ask you why do you think Indymedia should be adding to that voice?

'' By George, I was wrong''

25.11.2009 18:28

Well, you couldn't make this shit up, could you? Unless you were a '' conspiraloon ''. A group, not all, of scientists entrusted and well paid, with furnishing the great unwashed with factual and accurate information on the effects and causes of climate change, have been caught with their pants down. So far down in fact, they are going to find it very difficult to cover their collective humiliation.
As you say PP there is no 'conspiracy theory' here, it is a bang to rights, plain and simple CONSPIRACY.
George 'don't we all love him' Monbiot is not a spokes person for anyone but himself. He does not represent me or anyone else. His opinions are his own, and now it seems they are wrong. Thats ok Georgie boy, you climbed the activist celeb ladder, disrespected Bellamy on national telly, courted the MSM and took its shilling. Time for a re-think eh? May I suggest a reading up on the global effects of humility. You owe Bellamy an apology.
Why play this very interesting story down, why hide, why censor. Look, we all make mistakes. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Any backlash from these revelations will be due to the religious zeal with which some activists have tried to hypocritically guilt trip the public, riding on the back of state sponsored greenwash.
The problem isn't CO2, its pollution and always has been. Pollution is a by-product of capitalism - look around - simples!

Proud Conspiraloon
