Anti-extremist protesters jailed for Luton rampage

Richard Myers and Tony Griffiths were both jailed at Luton Magistrates Court

Four men have been jailed for going on the rampage during a march against Muslim extremists in Luton.

The event on 24 May was held after a protest by Muslim demonstrators during a homecoming parade for the Royal Anglian Regiment earlier in the year.

James Butley, 18, of West Sussex, Tony Griffiths, 27 and Simon Hattle, 21, from Luton were jailed for 16 weeks at Luton Magistrates Court.

Richard Myers, 21, from Luton was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison.

The "March for England" through Luton town centre last year saw up to 400 people take part in a peaceful protest, police said.

'Lose liberty'

But a group broke away and smashed windows at an Asian-owned fast food shop and an Asian man was attacked.

Police officers were goaded by a mob who hurled placards at them, the court heard.

CCTV footage was played in the court which showed a small group running across a dual carriageway where they attacked a car containing three Asian men.

District Judge Carolyn Melanby said: "People who behave in this way will lose their liberty."

Three other defendants who were due to be sentenced had their case adjourned because reports were not ready

JOIN THE LUTON PROTEST AGAINST WAR

22.01.2010 10:42

The above comment was right - more of a rampage than a proest.

Luton For Peace will be holding a PEACE VIGIL against all war and particularly against the Afghan war and we will be there to remember all the dead on all sides - military and civilian (32000 Afghan civilians dead - figures from US War Department andf not Al Jaheera!).

We will be holding the vigil near the Luton War Memorial from 2pm Saturday 23rd January and will be distributing leaflets headed WAR IS MURDER.

If you want to join us come peacefully and respectfully.

As it is the Luton Police and Luton Council are not happy about us doing this. The Police spoke of 'giving us persmission' to exercise our right to freedom of expression.

Peace with Justice

23.01.2010 10:34

James Butley, 18, West Sussex
Tony Griffiths, 27, Luton
Simon Hattle, 21, Luton

or which photo is which?

these 3 lads are in?

Do we know what the charge was?

What exactly were they found guilty of, does anybody know?

This sort of thing is what will bring the EDL to a crashing halt any time now. The fact is that as a movement they are naive and inexperienced. Their most active "members" on any given day are local young lads who've seen Green Street and think that you can go out, get pissed, chant, intimidate, smash things, have a bit of argy bargy with the OB and smack the odd Asian person and then on Monday go back to college and life will go on as normal.

What they've yet to clock is that a lot of their doors are going to go through at 5am in the next few months and they are going to be fucked because they've been giving it the bigun all over Facebook. And I can guarantee that they're not going to get any support from the lads running the websites and organising the demos because they will be shit scared.

Which if any organisation? The EDL !!!!!

23.01.2010 19:00

A video defending these 4 morons has been posted by the EDL at.....

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5CegkUx2h8
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BltXKycTVSM

The video describes these 4 as (direct quote) "EDL members sitting in prison", and as "patriots who were involved in leading the way at the start of the EDL".

The video describes their racism as "a little drunken thuggery" while simultaneously trying to pretend that EDL protests are "peaceful". Here's my response......
