Nauticalia - Fur dealers pay them a visit

As it's a day of action against animal abuse in Hampshire tomorrow what better time to visit a few Nauticalia shops, dealers in death.

Please also (politely) contact West Quay Shopping Centre in Southampton and ask why Nauticalia are allowed to peddle Chinese rabbit fur in their centre. Are a few horrific looking "ships cats" worth all the pain and suffering???

Is there SERIOUS doubt about the why? For what reason do you believe that the West Quay Sopping Centre has clauses inserted in the store leases that would allow them to dictate what products the store is or isn't allowed to sell to that degree?

You might make a demand that NEW leases (at renewal) for ALL stores specify "no fur" or even "no animal products". But to DEMAND that somebody do something when they clearly have no legal way to comply with that demand is another matter. May require great care. I can choose to take actions that because I think them right leave me open to civil (or even criminal) liability. I might have free speech rights to SUGGEST to somebody else that they do likewise. But I presumably do not have the right to apply PRESSURE on anybody else that they do something for which they would be liable and the rightness of the underlying cause has nothing to do with that.

I'd agree. This is more to do with not ensuring the contracts contained those exclusive before they were signed. There isn't really anything the shopping center can do until those leases run out and a new contract is negotiated. Unless of course they are breaking the law which i seriously doubt they are.

You're taking this way too literally - are you on the autistic spectrum?

It's just about putting pressure on places that lease shops to people who sell fur.

They can always boot them out mid-lease if they want - it has happened before. Or it could also be seen as a long-term strategy to make shopping centres wary of renting to fur-sellers.

There was a similar, but not-so-legal, and highly effective campaign against department stores that sold fur in the 1980's...

I think it's wonder the way your publishing a small business details and encouraging this action. As the biggest killer of animals around, Nauticalia deserve this attention. It's not like there are bigger companies, with far larger legal departments that could tie people in knots for the rest of their lives exist, like a car company using leather seats, a fur coat manufacturer or any users of animal parts.

How proud it must make you feel to stand up to the obvious source of the problem, rather than picking on the smaller ones who can't defend themselves as easily.
