Stop racial abuse by UKBA staff - protest this friday

Refugee Voice Wales | 23.02.2010 11:14 | Anti-racism | Migration | Social Struggles

Demonstration outside the UK Border Agency offices, 31-33 Newport Road, Cardiff on Friday 26th February between 1pm and 3pm. In response to the whistle-blowing of Louise Perrett.

We are calling for an immediate stop to consistent racial abuse and harassment of asylum seekers by the UKBA staff.

We demand:

• that all cases dealt by unscrupulous officers be reviewed
• immediate suspension of all removals / deportations
• the suspension of all corrupt staff and their supervisors
• an instant independent overhaul of the whole system at Cardiff UKBA
• An independent inquiry into all UKBA offices to uphold the Refugee Convention

Tell everyone you know to come! Come play your part to create freedom.

If you have BLACK GLOVES please wear them on the day for the freedom salute!

Come let’s have a mass toyi-toyi (African War dance for freedom and equality).

This is a mockery to the inclusion and integration policies so encouraged by the Welsh Assembly.

It's quite odd that people are doing this considering that Lou Perrett has specifically pointed out that protesting outside the UKBA offices in Cardiff is not going to make any difference, and will in fact just entrench the behaviour of those who already work there.

Still... Good luck

It's clear your just a racist troll scumbag, but the idea that we have to tip toe around these racists as you suggest makes my blood boil

You are saying "oi foreigners, don't exercise your democratic rights, us racists don't like it"

The "not going to make any difference" line is used against each and every protest in history, and as for the idea that it will then be 'our fault' that racist behaviour continues, that's just offensive!!

Still... FUCK YOU!

I doubt you'll read this considering how far down the newswire this is, and considering your kneejerk reaction to my comment I doubt you'll pay it any heed. But regardless... This protest has been called in support of the whistle-blowing of Lou Perrett, who worked at UKBA for three months. Maybe you haven't seen her talk about her time there; I have. She has specifically noted, both times I have seen her speak, what the effect on the staff is of protests outside the UKBA offices in Cardiff - it merely entrenches them in the belief that they are right, and that people on the 'outside' don't understand the reality of the job they do, which they believe is protecting Britain from all the terrible dangerous foreigners.

How you've jumped from what I said to me being a racist and telling foreigners not to exercise their rights I don't know. Although it's hardly surprising to see people making baseless claims and personal insults based on misreadings of what people have written. I also wished the protestors good luck... But obviously there's some encoded racism in there. For fuck's sake.
