Demo's continue against Noah's Ark Zoo

F.T.Z | 04.04.2010 15:13 | Animal Liberation | World

Seven BARC ( bristol animal rights collective ) voulenteers paid another visit to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm today to brave the rain and educate the punters about this scummy zoo. We were pleased to do this demo as part Zoo Awareness Weekend 2010 ( Saturday 3rd - Monday 5th April )

We were greeted by the cops,The Sunday Express, The Bristol Evening Pest and some of the zoo staff. As we handed out our leafletts the zoo staff gave out their counter leaflett. The zoo have been claiming that the recent council investigation into their animal abuse has cleared them but in reallity 7 new conditions have been added to their zoo licence. More info can be found here -  http://www.captiveanimals.org/news/2010/noah.html

The demo went really well with the usual support from passing motorists and a lack of a certain zoo owner who's rambling one way conversation's were not missed. On the last demo the owner accused us of 'spreading the darkness' which is a phrase we've not heard before but it sounds kinda kool.

Our main problem with the zoo is their abuse of animals but many people do have a problem with the owners creationist veiws and the fact he has many signs/displays etc that question evolution! See for yourself, the following link is to the zoo's own website -  http://www.noahsarkzoofarm.co.uk/pages/research/researc...h.php

We will be outside the zoo again this monday from 10.30am - 2 pmish feel free to come along and get in touch if you want a lift. -  barc@hotmail.co.uk

More info on the zoo campaign and bristol A/R collective can be found on our websites -  http://closenaz.wordpress.com/ and  http://www.bristolanimalrights.org.uk/

noah's ark

04.04.2010 17:24

i was wondering what animal rights comrades actually think of the real Noah's ark in the bible, book of genesis, chapters 6-9?
was it a good thing to put 2 of every speecies into a big ship?
i mean to force the animals into the ship, then enforce hetrosexuality on to them also!

homosexual animals

And incest. But, I guess it was a global emergency and extreme measures were called for.

But good point. I believe may stud farms do enforce hetrosexual behaviour on animals which of course is wrong. Perhaps this should be protested.

04.04.2010 23:13

Because thats diary, but everyone likes Icecream.

To Breast Feeding MIk

05.04.2010 00:34

Well you know there is non-dairy ice cream and also sorbet is usually much nicer than ice cream anyway.

But have you considered that many of us stopped drinking breast milk when we were babies. It's not our fault that you wish to put cow's breast milk in your coffee. I bet you also like to eat the menstrual discharge of hens as well don't you. There's some sick people in this world.

Never tried but it sounds delicious, do you know where I can get some from without fiddling with the hens?

eating stuff

05.04.2010 23:50

non diary ice-cream doesn't taste very nice, and i don't think the ingredients in sorbet is particularly good for you - although it is quite nice

However, most people drink milk, or at least put it in tea or coffee. And most people eat eggs and cheese. People have been doing so for 100s, if not 1000s of years. Its part of our evolution, just like eating meet. Of course, you can choose not to eat those things, but most people don't want to.
Vegan is on the rise, it may taper off to a plateau, or it may continue to rise, who knows.

non-dairy ice cream (re: eating stuff)

06.04.2010 11:10

I don't even particularly like ice cream, but non-dairy ice cream does taste much nicer than the cows' milk one.

And sorbet is basically just ice cream with water instead of milk, isn't it? not sure how that can be bad for you.

Also, you commit a basic logical fallacy - just because something has been done for a long time doesn't necessarily make it right. Rape, murder, sexism, racism, homophobia have gone on for many years and have often been very popular. That doesn't make them right.

"Of course, you can choose not to eat those things, but most people don't want to."

Should you have the "choice" to harm others? This isn't just a harmless choice like what gender of person you want to fuck, it is literally a matter of life or death for many animals.

the way we are

06.04.2010 18:47

Good points. Thankyou

I'll try the non dairy icecream. Had it years ago, didn't like it - but will try again
Had some sorbet a while back and noticed it had something in the ingredients. Can remember what - gelatine or something?

Ok, there going to be an issue of "right" and "wrong" here. Animals (and plants) kill and explout other lifeforms to survive. For instance, the way a cookoo lays its eggs isn't 'morally' right. But we don't go around punishing all the cookoos do we?

Killing each other is "morally" wrong. But sometimes it is "right" (self defense / preservation)
These ideals were made over time. 1000s of years ago, the idea of not killing people would have been ludicous to the majority.

In the same way, the idea of not farming and milking animals also seems ludicous. Perhaps now isn't the right time for our species to move away from this. Perhaps it will happen in 1000s of years from now?

All animals make and have choices in the form or life and death. We are animals, part of nature and a product of evolution. We can't simply just cast away millions of years of evolutionary hardwiring at will. Maybe a certain percentage of us can, but thats just statistics. Humans are human - if we didn't act like humans, then we would no longer be human.
