According to documents compiled by Stop Animal Experiments at Bradford (SAEAB), a national police network headed by 'Special Branch' is being used for "vetting staff who [have] access to the animal to the small mammal house," as Plymouth University quite simply put it.
We also know from confidential sources that UK universities are taking what can only be termed as extra ordinary steps to prevent any undercover investigators gaining positions inside their animal labs. All potential staff are screened, as mentioned above, but beyond this they are placed under direct surveillance, followed on foot and in vehicles, have their rubbish bins searched and quite unbelievably tracking devices are placed under their cars.
At SAEAB, we find it unbelievable that only a few years back animal researchers were discussing transparency in their research, but quite obviously only under their protective and whitewashed PR guise where the real visions of abuse are not exposed, nor shown. With such a substantial level of paranoia in the UK university vivisection industry, compiled of 71 laboratories nationwide, it begs to question what do they really have to fear if their facilities are "world class" as they so often advertise?
