A Union For All Workers

WIIU-UK | 16.05.2010 17:08 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Birmingham | Liverpool

Building the One Great Union of all workers in the UK

The Workers' International Industrial Union is a worker run union that seeks to replace the oppressive, exploitative capitalist system with an economic democracy which will benefit everyone. Our aim is to do this through economic organization- organizing workers industrially, and political action- proclaiming our desire for a new system at the polls and through other activities.

We also organize to fight the day to day battles for higher wages, better working conditions and greater democracy and accountability in the workplace. Even if you have a union where you work, you are still welcome to join the WIIU. If there is no union where you work you can still join. No matter what your job or skill, unemployed, disabled, retired, all workers are welcome in the WIIU.

If you are a worker and you realize that the present system works only for the wealthy few and you are ready to join with others to change that, you belong in the WIIU.

Or the IWW

16.05.2010 17:31

Seriously, why would anyone interested in industrial/syndicalist unionism not just join the wobblies instead?

Splitters!

Yeah, that's what I thought first. Although actually I'm closed to Solidarity Federation than IWW in terms of anarcho-syndicalism. So I looked up this IUWW and apparently when they are big enough they'll either endorse a party of labour or try and create one of their own! In other words, they're syndicalists but not anarcho-syndicalists, and they've got a pretty dodgy looking program.

irrelevant history......

NE and splitter

your right!

the original WIIU was specifically started in Detroit in 1909 as a split from the IWW because it rejected the no party political stance of the IWW. The original WIIU union allied itself with “delonism' (syndicalist-Marxism) and the Socialist Labour Party (of America).

Who the hell they are this time round seems oblique, but they have 4 branches with identical texts on their websites, so possibly a membership of 4 as well.

asNE has noticed their support for political parties is a key policy that distinguishes them from the syndicalism (anarcho or other wise) of the IWW.

My guess is that its some Marxist groupsicle that has noticed the recent surge in IWW activity in the UK most of which (though not exclusively)has been driven by anarchists and they wanted a piece of the action so decided to reform a specifically Marxist parliamentarian split.

They were irrelevant last time round they will be irrelevant this time as well

Oh and another thing.... even the fash are at it

17.05.2010 11:21

if you wanna see groups trying to steal a bit of anarcho-syndicalist thunder check out this bunch of fuckers

 http://www.solidaritytradeunion.com/

they are the 'one big union' wing of the Fascist parties and namecheck the IWW and the CNT!!!!!! (I kid yee not) on their front page as the basis of their organising model.

They claimed to have represented BNP members who lost their jobs after the membership leak, if they did or to what success I don't know......

@rchie

not very amusing

Not sure who has set up these websites but certainly a disgruntled wingnut. The UK IWW (also known as the BIROC) has always had it's doors open to any worker who will abide by the constitution, whether they are state socialist, social democratic, or anarchist or just a wobbly. We do not *back* parties or groups but you are allowed to *be* in them. It could not get more open than that. On the eve of a potential breakthrough for the IWW, it isn't very amusing that someone has the time to be a dumbarse and confusionist.

Mate, if you have time to set up a new union - and it has taken us almost 10 years and thousands of pounds since seriously going about it - along with proper recognition rights, proper accounting, then you have time to appropriate someone else's name, language and terminology. But you don't have time to do any of that; doubtless you are one of the many damaged types the left attracts in the hope you find someone to talk to.
