This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- China and Japan have agreed to establish a hotline between their two Premiers. The Prime Minister of Japan has resigned over criticism of his failure to move US military bases off of Okinawa. New Zealand is considering joining Australia's legal action against Japanese whaling. Six provinces in Spain have been placed on alert because of extreme high temperatures. Egypt ordered the Rafah border into Gaza opened indefinitely following Israel's deadly attack on the flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. In the past two months, the Pakistani military have killed over a thousand militants in the northwest at a cost of 35 billion US dollars. Thailand's Prime Minister survived a vote of no confidence over the attacks on the Redshirt movement.
From NETHERLANDS- Radio Netherlands has eliminated shortwave broadcasts to North America. The decision is based on their surveys that find very few listeners in N America. If you ever listen to RN on shortwave, please let them know- by email to letters@rnw.nl or send them a letter to Radio Netherlands Worldwide, PO Box 222, 1200JG, Hilversum, The Netherlands.
While the Thai Prime Minister has so far kept his position, there are charges of human rights abuses being filed against him internationally. A review of the international condemnation of the Israeli military's violent assault on the flotilla of humanitarian aid headed to Gaza- only the protection of the US is preventing immediate action against Israel.
From CUBA- More details on the international protests and calls for action against the Israeli military attack on the aid flotilla to Gaza. Two days before the assault, members of the non-proliferation treaty called for a nuclear-free Middle East and called on Israel to open its nuclear sites for international inspection. A powerful tropical storm hit Central America, leaving more than 99 people dead, and three feet of rainfall in two days. A human rights activist has called on Brazil to close legal loopholes that perpetuate the practice of slavery. The US military is drawing up plans for a possible unilateral strike in Pakistan.
From RUSSIA- Israel launched bombing raids on the Gaza Strip after protests broke out against the attack on the humanitarian aid ships. All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
