Freedom of Expression Raises Funds for Film Festival and Resurrection House

Clearwater, FL: “Freedom of Expression”, Human Right # 19, according to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, was the focus the 2nd Annual “Songs of Stage and Screen”, featuring Paul Wilson, Joan Sigal, Tom Godfrey and the Flag Band.
Clearwater, FL: “Freedom of Expression”, Human Right # 19, according to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, was the focus the 2nd Annual “Songs of Stage and Screen”, featuring Paul Wilson, Joan Sigal, Tom Godfrey and the Flag Band. The charity concert on benefited the Sunscreen Film Festival and Resurrection House. The event was held at the historic Fort Harrison, which was built in the late 1920’s.
Welcoming the attendees was Film Festival Board Member and Community Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology, Lisa Mansell. The Church has been the caretaker of the Fort Harrison since 1975.
Ms. Mansell stated, “Since her grand opening on December 31st 1926, the Fort Harrison has been the location of many concerts and cultural events, and we are happy to continue that tradition.”
Founder of Church of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard said, “The artist, day by day, by postulating the new realities of the future, accomplishes peaceful revolution.”
The revolutionaries who have performed at the Fort Harrison Hotel include Duke Ellington, the Four Freshmen, Isaac Hayes, Chick Corea, Chaka Khan and Edgar Winter. The concert ended with the whole ensemble performing “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones, who wrote that song while staying at the Fort Harrison back in 1965.
In addition to live entertainment, the Sunscreen Film Festival presented two short films, “True Beauty This Night” and “A More Perfect Yellow,” the latter of which was filmed in Pinellas County.
“With the suffering of human rights violations across the globe, it was nice to help in any way we can both Sunscreen Film Festival, who promotes human rights through their educational film programs, and Resurrection House, who helps homeless families get back on their feet,” said Youth for Human Rights President, Dustin McGahee. Youth for Human Rights Florida educates about the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights both in and out of the classroom, with youth oriented DVDs about the 30 human rights and educational materials created in collaboration with the Human Rights Department of the Church of Scientology International. The materials include “The Story of Human Rights,” a documentary video that illustrates the history of human rights through the ages, and booklets that easily explain our human rights.
