Moat case reveals UK hatred of police

vast minority | 15.07.2010 05:44

THE DEPTH of anti-police feeling in the UK has been dramatically revealed by a wave of admiration for killer Raoul Moat.

The authorities are showing signs of panic as tributes have flocked in to the nightclub doorman who went on the run after killing his girlfriend's new partner and controversially committed suicide as he was hit by new super-powerful police Tasers.

Reports The Daily Mail: "David Cameron turned up the pressure on Facebook last night after the website defied demands to take down sick messages of support for gunman Raoul Moat.

"The Premier attacked the social networking site for doing nothing to prevent hundreds of people posting tributes to the killer.

"In the Commons, an angry Mr Cameron said Moat was a 'callous murderer' and undeserving of sympathy.

'There should be sympathy for his victims, and for the havoc he wreaked in that community; there should be no sympathy for him.'

"But last night Facebook was refusing to take down the 'RIP Raoul Moat You Legend!' page - even though many of its members are openly attacking the policeman Moat blinded and saying they wished he had killed more people.
"Many of them suggest Moat was justified in killing his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, while others say he should have killed policemen."Terrianne 'Courtney' Robinson wrote: 'He's a ******* LEGEND for attempting to kill the police – should have taken a lot more down with him! R.I.P Big Man.'

"Neil Robinson said: 'Cameron should be more concerned about the way his Plod's handled the whole thing. People that are leaving flowers are showing their respect for a man who was wronged badly by the system. He stood up to the system and they don't like it'."
Similar views can be seen in comments on sites like YouTube, where video tributes to Moat have been posted.

Says one: "i think you'll find that people do not admire this guy but sympathise with the way his situation was handled by the gun-totting and heavy handedness of the police which is blatently and clearly getting out of hand much too often year after year and the public don't like this idea of totalitarianism

"unfortunately though the police have lost so much face and respect for the way they behave in countless cases of accidental death, corruption, burying evidence etc (and getting away with it without proper inquiries) that there is rise of dislike towards them more than ever it appears.... and when the facts of this case appear to be buried (as in there is NO video evidence mysteriously btw, any may day, any event there are ALWAYS police cameras) it adds to the untrust towards them"

Adds another: "I was ruined by police corruptly covering-up local government corruption, with no access to justice. www_fast4truth.blogspot_com/
This is why people loathe police - they lie, and the system laughs in our face, while grinding our faces in the dirt to pay for their inflation-proof salaries."

One, this is hardly news as its on the front page of bloody Yahoo for f##s sake, well done managed to read a comercial front page.
Second, had a look?, the VAST MAJORITY of the posts are in favour of the cops shooting this nutter way before and to hell with the negociations. Just reading the daily mail and posting "news" here kind of pathetic, research is a bit more in depth, try reading a bit more than Pravda and the mail.

Moate was a looser, all the excusses in the world wont bring back the lives he took or bring back the sight of a man just doing his job that day, and to just on the bandwagon to run off some tired and frankly inacurate diatribe is far from activism, its self indulgent, petty and lacking in the fundimentals of being human.

in short, and I know I will get flak or suppressed for this, if you have a problem with the police so be it,its up to you, but to bandwagon such a story for your own ends is shamefull

The full testimoy

Why won't the police release the full 49 page document. The reason is because it speaks the truth.

Moat said he shot the copper because the copper was hassling a woman over a tax disk.

Previously Moat had done a pensioner a favour in taking some rubbish to the tip. The police pulled him over and declared it scrap metal, his vehicle wasn't licenced for scrap metal and so he was fined £200 even though he was simply taking it to the tip to do an old woman a favour!

Why did the police hassle him so much? It stems from when he was a doorman and he ejected one loud-mouthed twat who was hassling a few women in the club. The twat turned out to be the son of a very senior officer.

State institutions

15.07.2010 10:49

I'm not sure I agree with general thinking behind this post but I do think the whole affair is very interesting. The guy get's out of jail, societies so called correctional facility, and wages a war against those that put him there.

It shows that prison does the exact opposite of what the government tells us it does. It actually breeds content for state institutions and anger towards current society.

This makes projects like books to prisoners, ABC et al very important in building coherent social struggle.

"Moat said he shot the copper because the copper was hassling a woman over a tax disk."

Wrong, that isn't what was written in Moats letter.

There are plenty of reasons to hate the cops, nothing wrong in that. What Moat did cannot be at all justified.

Moat Bad

Reason

15.07.2010 11:09

Moat claimed he was set up on a false assault charge and arrested by a police officer who was having a affair with his partner.
The police have now admitted that the officer who was shot had arrested Moat 12 months ago.

Coincidence ?

Probably......

Family and friends

15.07.2010 11:14

I think it was in bad taste for Cameron to stand up in parliament speak out against people laying flowers. What this man did was wrong but he is dead and has friends and family who loved him, not what he did.

Society failed him.

Hmmm

15.07.2010 16:48

I have lots of really good reasons to hate the police which in fact I often do but as an institution. I dislike and know full well that there are certain individuals who want my freinds and I locked up for as long as possible and/or seriously hurt, I want to take measures to protect myself and other activists and other folk who are repressed. However this man shot his ex and her partner in cold blood cos she was seeing another bloke. For fucks sake I would support the police or anyone else who tried to stop him killing others. Yes he may have been fucked up by prison, loads of people are but mostly they don't come out and kill innocent people. He is reported to have raped and degraded his ex girlfreind, who knows I don't trust mainstream press, but it sounds as though he was a misogynist, a thug, a bully and if he is being heralded as some folk hero that worries the fuck out of me.

As for shooting an unsuspecting PC in the face, well personally I disapprove. Being violent towards the police in self defence or to defend others is one thing and often justified but to kill anyone when they have no means of defending themselves and are no immediate threat is way beyond what I would think ethical. Even the police are human with families, they can suffer and taking any life should not be done so lightly. We are supposed to be better than they.

Of course the police and prison service screwed up (scuse pun) and of course I am aware that the investigation may well fall short but whilst I regret that he died I certainly have many more things to lose sleep over. What really fucks me off is that when a grass roots activist gets locked up or seriously hurt or killed they are regarded as a "terrorist" who "had it coming", even though no-one is harmed, when this prick kills one person and maims 2 others for life then kills himself he is a "hero". Bullshit!!! If this was an animal rights activist who had killed someone who routinely and directly abuses animals I doubt very much that there would be a facebook page celebrating them even though the justification for the murder would be far, far greater (not that I am saying it is OK to murder anyone, just an opinion).

Firstly, lets dispell this thing about prison not working. People seem to think that prison is there to just reform people. Like anything, it will not be statistically 100% perfect. Name one infaliable method of stopping criminals from re-offending, the only one i can think of is put a bullet in each one of their heads. That would be 100% effective.

To me, the main reason that people are sent to prison is to protect the public from them. This can range from a burglar, a violent person or a murderer. In all cases, they are sent to prison so that the public is safe from their illegal behaviour. Does prison achieve this effectively? Yes it does.

So prison does work - to a degree. Until someone comes up with a better solution AND publicises AND proves it works, we might as well stick with prisons.

This moron was clearly a danger to himself and others. He was holding a gun to his head etc and refused to be helped with 6 hours of negotiation. The police tried, but its actually difficult to force someone not to shoot themselves. Tasering seems lke a logical last resort given that it would incapacitate, but hey its probably for the best the cunt shot himself.

Moat & cops

15.07.2010 21:57

For me, Moat is no better and no worse than the cops that 'attended' his death. They all had guns and were prepared to take lives. They all see themselves as some kind of fucking superheros. Moat was following some weird logic telling him what to do and justifying every step, the cops were following orders and justifying their actions. Blokes, guns, egos.

Raoule Moat

16.07.2010 00:30

There are a lot of questions that need answering e.g. why were the police using Tazer weapons not approved by the home office - when raoul asked for psychiatrc help why did he not receive it, why has his RIP page on facebook been nobled -
the system and the police have much to answer for, i know from personal experience of Brighton an dHove police and their boozing partners how nasty and corrpupt they are
RIP Raoul and my sincere condolescences to his friends and family

Vast amount of prisoners are recall cases who have been recalled for petty reasons such as missing probation appointments. Prison is not the punishment, taking your liberty is and if you are to reform prisoners then you need to stop treating them like shit.

Police are well over the top and need reigning in.

The demented mind

16.07.2010 12:41

Animal, there are tons of cunts in this evil world.

The saddest thing is that Moat blinded that policeman. I don't hold in with that. However, when one's mind is demented, running crazily amok, one's mind does not become rational. Be you for or against Moat, you try hard to imagine your poor old head banging away dementally. Case of "... let he who is without sin cast the first stone" here. I think that these new Krep tazers were badly in need of being tried out on some human. I reckon the tazers are evil! They ought to be banned. Poultry and other animals for human meat consumption are subjected to electrical stunning prior to having their throats slit (murdered, that is)!

Like everything else, most folk will almost certainly have forgotten the Whitehaven mass murderer, eh? Most folk will soon forget this sad Moat episode, too. So, maybe, it's time to stop carping on about it all, eh? Fine words butter no parsnips, so all the moaning won't put right what all Moat's victims and Moat suffered. Unless some of you out there are miracle workers, of course. People like Moat need help, not the opposite, so let's hope such folk get it, to hopefully stop this sort of thing happening ever again, eh?

The only way to stop this from happening again is to moan.

its a shame

17.07.2010 13:47

It's a shame the media is being used to bastardise the MET police.

Shame on central government.
Shame on parliament.

It is my greatest wish that the MET reform their union and stand proud and strong once again, as a force to be respected globally, for their pride of presence and fairness of mentality. The american robo cop mentality is not a good look that the MET wants to be adopting.

It's a shame central government does not care 4 the mental health of the nation through constantly serving up shit lies and telling the people the moon is made of cheese, war is necessary, we have have no money for education and healthcare, including mental healthcare, as this desperate joe so desperately needed and apparently asked 4.

Society is becoming very sick in the head indeed and we all need to accept responsibility instead of blaming the nanny state and expecting them to fix the problems they have, in my mind, intentionally created.

It's a crying shame what this nation has been reduced to through centralised government of a particularly corrupt nature. We have become a most corrupted society.

Ahhh posh liberal sympathy for violent criminals....

19.07.2010 16:56

Posh liberals and left-wingers who never have to experience crime (because their wealth buys them out real life) can feel sorry for violent criminals who hurt others.
The belief that poverty and oppression justifies violence against other people is held mainly by those who are preety well heeled. The poor and oppressed would not accept violence from their own.
