Urgent call out get to Parliament Square for Sunday night!

Democracy villager | 17.07.2010 09:09

Due to the pending eviction of the Parliament Square democracy village which could happen on Monday morning we need as many people as possible to get down to the Square for Sunday night to help resist the eviction.

Our message to the GLA and the government is clear, we are going nowhere until all allied troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan. We call on all anti-war activists to come and join us in the square.

If they ban us from Parliament Square we will defy that ban and go back there in even greater numbers!

Is there a Job Centre in the Democracy Village?

Jobs for the boys...and gals!

"Is there a Job Centre in the Democracy Village?"

Yes, its called the Department for War Prevention (DWP).

Its a non-Government initiative setup without funding from business & industry and its primary stake-holder is the peaceful British people. Its primary role is to provide decent, honest and hard-working individuals an opportunity to take part in society instead of wasting their lives away reading tabloid newspapers, becoming ill sitting in offices and engafing in criminal activity such as voting Labour.

The DWP recognises that all citizens have the right to 'peaceful employment' and is committed to providing this work to its service users so they can live in peace & harmony.

Recent studies have shown that without 'peaceful employment' members of society can become depressed, emotional and inclined to engage in anti-social activity such as joining the army, the Government or large corporations leading to overwork, disorientation or in extreme cases death!

The DWP is a division of the CBI (Campaign for British Interests).

We are an equal opportunities employer!

If you have any queries about the work of the DWP you can write to:

David Cameron
Prime Minister
10 Downing Street
London
England.

Be sure to include a photograph of Tony Blair and to start your letter with the words "Whatever they say I did, their f***ing lying!".

Thanks but no thanks.

I like the tabloid newspapers. What difference between wasting your life reading them and wasting your life reading indymedia?
As for 'going nowhere until all allied troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan.' I think your in for a long wait. How long has that Brian bloke been there? Ten years? I don't think camping is gonna get the government to pull out (as Brain has shown us).
When it comes to giving 'hard-working individuals an opportunity to take part in society.' We are already. We're not on the doss camping in London.
Thank you though, I like been offered a change to take part in society by people who are completely cut off from it.

And yet here you are, reading and commenting your heart away!

Now why would that be?

probably ammusement.....

dont worry though, was on the bus the other day and the general concensus (as we were stuck in traffic when some charming people decided that holding up a tatty banner and sitting down was going to help) was that "oh f##k not this lot again, why dont the police just turf them off." one elderly lady was arguing with a cop on the bus as she wanted to "move" them herself....robustly.

so at least you have the backing of the ....oh er no you dont, sorry but its just what i witnessed.

"so at least you have the backing of the ....oh er no you dont, sorry but its just what i witnessed."

On every protest, on every subject, at all times & in all places...there are those who don't believe a word of it. Then it becomes mainstream, and everybody thought of it first.

Its a funny old game!

They had a longtime to up the number of people at this protest.....years
yet, the evidence seems to indicate that most people are either indifferent or against it.

we are only talking about a tiny minority of freakish people

kind and thoughtful

Beyond the pale.

"They had a longtime to up the number of people at this protest.....years yet, the evidence seems to indicate that most people are either indifferent or against it. we are only talking about a tiny minority of freakish people"

Most people I know simply don't understand the primary issues involved or do their best to fit in with what they think the general public consensus is i.e scruffy protesters without jobs, or soap, doing what they always do. Its a long-standing cultural tradition in this country. As I said previously, on every issue at all times this attitude is present. Scratch just a little bit and you will find exactly the same attitude to those the protesters are protesting against. If you see a delinquent despising attitude among the ordinary public towards the protesters, you won't have to look too far to find those views are also held over Parliament, Police, Media et al.

I think its best described as a general malaise, and is usually unreliable as an indicator to what people really think about serious subjects.

You may well have taken the conduct of the people on the bus as being against the protesters, and therefore, for the war...

Mistake!

I know people who have no time at all for "dole scrounging protesters" but are also strongly opposed to the war.

Work that one out!

And there is another more sobering thought. Without the peace protesters having a public way of being seen, and being reported, Britain cannot report being concerned at the sending of its army to places like Afghanistan. Without this reported public concern, there is nothing to temper things in Afghanistan. Moderate voices in Afghanistan (yes, they are there) have no ammunition of their own to use.

So people might not like the protesters in Parliament Square, but that doesn't make them any less essential.
