EDL Members Arrested Over Suspected Mosque Bomb Plot

One Million United | 26.07.2010 23:48 | Anti-racism | Terror War

Several English Defence League members were sensationally arrested last week by police investigating an apparent pot to bomb a British mosque.

Tim Ablitt, partner Tanya, Alfred and Tracy Saint, and a man known only at this stage as ‘Poole Knight’ were arrested by officers in Dorset on Thursday evening and held for 24hours while police investigated their potential involvement in an bomb plot thought to involve Bournemouth mosque.

The five EDL members and two non EDL females had PCs and phones confiscated, and their homes searched.

All arrestees were released, apparently without charge, on Friday. ‘Poole Knight’ claims he has his car tyres shot at by police.

The group are alleged to have been being watched for some weeks prior to their arrests and are still thought to be under investigation, having had bank accounts frozen and vehicles detained.

Well done Old Bill!

Good. Would those be the arseholes who were caught mouthing off about how they wanted to blow people up on that ridiculous extremist American site last week? Hope they get a nice long stretch in Belmarsh next to their fundie opposite numbers.

There have been a worrying amount of calls for police action against people 'we' don't approve of happening on here. Radical solutions are DIY and community led.
No to the police and no to the state.

"No to the police and no to the state" = let the Nazi terrorists and Mosque bombers walk free. EXACTLY how many Nazi terrorists has the Anarchist movement taken off the streets? As for your radical DIY solutions... where are they?

As for "@theist" - do you think the way to liberate people from religion is by murdering them you stupid fucking pathetic brainless imbecilic shit-for-brains jackass

Strategy of Tension, Divide and Rule.

Add the tag line 'no smoke without fire' and the EDL become a terrorist threat. Brutal treatment by state Authority radicalises dissidents and turns up the heat, and these state actions isolate it's victims from their community creating further radicalisation.

Now the state can go further and Gladio style carry out a Mosque Burning (or even a plot to burn a Mosque) while the media peddles rumours about EDL involvement, state bloggers (trolls) post celebratory posts to right wing sites, like the ones by 'Dave Shearman' or 'Michelle Hirons' on the EDL screen grab above.

This was an intelligence operation to get data from these computers and to attach the tag of 'terrorist' to the EDL, now there you have it! a perfect example of a dialectic set up by the ruling class through the actions of its state and media. EDL vs ISLAM

Its all done to stop the ruled ever coming together and calling the ruling class to account for their criminal acts against democracy.

I think you have to look at these things from the perspective of the ruling class, a purely dialectical analysis isn't good enough.

Peace.

Government and police are terrorists you twit
Nazi terrorists? you're having a giraffe

Looking to government - police - army to act on your behalf betrays your position

Fuck your civilization

Edl / bnp are just a distraction from the fact that whatever government is in power is far more extremist than any kind of fundamentalist group

They do it in far away lands, like they've always done
and you happily ignore it

For radical community led solutions in this case, you don''t need to look further than the autonomous
mobilisation preparing to confront the EDL and stop their manifestation.

We had "radical community solutions" to the EDL in Harrow, and if any self-styled wannabe "anarchist" threatens to blow-up Harrow Mosque we'll do the same to you too

EDL troll?

28.07.2010 01:20

To be fair there's no way of telling whether the original (now removed) "@theist" comment was a real anarchist or just some EDL twat doing a wind-up, but anyone who simplistically equates Islam with authoritarianism would do well to bone-up on groups like the Alevi and Barelvi movements.

In much the same way that non-conformist working-class Christianity directly led to many modern socialist and trades union movements here in the UK (so much for any wanker who believes in blowing up churches), Alevis have a theology that stresses equality, compassion and respect for working people, which often leads members to join left-wing groups; and the Wikipedia entry on the relationship between Alevism and Sunni Islam states that "Sunnism, according to the Alevis, is not true Islam but an aberration that by its strict legalism opposes free and independent thought and is seen as reactionary, bigoted, fanatic, and antidemocratic. Alevis believe Sunni nationalism is intolerant (and) domineering... In today's political arena Alevis see themselves as a counterforce to Sunni fundamentalism... Alevis, who have a great interest in blocking the rising fundamentalist influence, are the main allies of the democratic secularists, and are also searching for alliances with moderate Sunnis against the extremists." In other words these Muslims - all 15 million of them - do far more to oppose Muslim extremism than the EDL ever will.

Modern Islamist and Al-Qaeda terror groups are mainly extra-extreme spin-offs from the culture of right-wing groups like the Muslim Brotherhood - a neo-Fascist group that, like the Islamo-Fascist group Hizb-ut Tahrir, is in fact BANNED in many Muslim countries. Barelvis are (ironically in this context) a Sunni movement which defends traditional Sufi-influenced (therefore mostly pacifist) Islam against more recent right-wing movements like Wahhabism and Deobandism. Wikipedia cites sources which say that that "the Barelvi movement has taken a stance against Taliban movements in South Asia, organising rallies and protests in India and Pakistan, condemning what they perceive as unjustified sectarian violence", and, far from being a minority "India Today estimates that the vast majority of Muslims in India adhere to the Barelvi movement, and The Times writes that a majority of (South Asian) Muslims in the United Kingdom adhere to the movement".

Other sects like the Ahmaddiya have been victims of extremist terrorism and in recent years often emigrated to Europe to ESCAPE extremist Islam. Wikipedia provides citations that argue "the Ahmadiyya movement is considered by some historians as one of the precursors to the African-American Civil Rights Movement in America". Anyone who wants to know more about these vicious terrorists (joking!) would do well to read about the recent cricket tournaments they organised in Tooting...

It's perfectly possible to destroy buildings when they are empty, harming no-one.

Religion is a multi-billion dollar industry that brainwashes literally billions every year into believing sexist, racist and homophobic dogma, and abuses millions of kids. It does far more damage than a small group of drunken racist football hooligans.

"We're waiting" and "Grassy Knoll" are just being disingenuous idiots by deliberately misquoting me. Or maybe they have a hidden agenda of being apologists for religion? Just because Islam is our enemy's enemy doesn't make it our friend.

I wonder which of Indymedia's guidelines my original post fell foul of?

If yobs from the EDL are destroying religious buildings it's the best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned - religion gets attacked and some racist scumbags possibly spend time in jail for it. I'm just lamenting the fact that they don't widen their scope to other religions too.

@theist

re: EDL troll?

28.07.2010 15:50

I can assure you I'm not an EDL troll, I'm very much antifascist and anarchist. I just think religion has a very negative effect on society. This has nothing to do with whether it is "terrorist" or "authoritarian". It just discourages critical thinking.

Even the most liberal and hippy of religions do this. Many others promote various forms of bigotry because they slavishly adhere to norms of yesteryear just because their holy books say so. Is it right to bring up kids believing that a fairy story is factual truth?

I'm sure you get religious people with a progressive outlook on some things. My experience in general has been the opposite, though - religious people tend to be more conservative.

I don't "simplistically equate Islam with authoritarianism". Firstly, I don't single out Islam as being much different from any of the other religions, and secondly it's not just the authoritarianism I have a problem with, even though most religions are authoritarian.

@theist

about religion

28.07.2010 16:32

at the end of the day, as anarchists, self-proclaimed or otherwise, we dont agree with organised religion. (however, their are 'anarchist christians', who often 'disconnect' from the church).
Therefore religious places of 'worship' dont really hold any sway over us, they are buildings equal to housing, and should be expropriated to the poor and needy, not so people can profit from peoples 'spirituality'. if they are empty and some one burns it down or bombs it, so what, religion means nothing to us apart from further slavery.
Like wise, if anarchists decide they dont want islam, christianity or judaism within their community, they will make it known and those wishing to practice orgainsed religion shall do so else where as a result. also, anarcvhists dont have to live near mosques, but i am yet to meet any anarchists who would target a churcgh because of the peopel who worshiip there, it would probably be more to do with attacking the sumbolism of the church/mosque/synagogue. and anyone who thinks 'their' religion isn't inviolved in some form of oppression, then think again. it runs through ALL cults and sects, churchs and factions.
in a class war situation, indeed an insurrectionary uprising, which would undoubtedly involve a 'coalition' of 'groups', im certain the EDL would never ever find any friends amongst anarchists and those protecting their homes and places of worship will probably find anarchists helping them to fend off fascism. the fact of the matter remains, anarchists by their very nature dont want beef with everyone or anyone paricular thing or organisation, but we find ourselves on the recieving end of hatred and violence from most, if not all of the major relgiions, most if not all political groups, and most if not all of the 'general' public.
so fuck you, and your relgions.....No Peace.
