Bradfordians should not worry about the planned EDL demonstration

There is fear building up in Bradford, thanks to the English Defence League. But there's nothing really to be fearful about.

As much as we would like the EDL to never come to Bradford, some EDL members will still come on August the 28th. The campaign to Ban the March of Hate will hopefully be successful but we must be prepared if the she refuses to listen to the people.

The advice is to all Bradford people is to stay calm, keep up the good work in the petition campaign and ignore the ridiculous threats the EDL are making. We must not give them the reaction they want. The EDL are deluded football hooligans, and we should put trust in the Police to deal with them. Unlike in 2001, West Yorkshire Police WILL be prepared for the worst and will be ready in BIG numbers. Before we know it, August 28th will be over with only good news to report.

There will be a Unite Against Fascism Celebration of our Bradford on the same day – This is not a counter protest. Feel free to attend but remember stay on the right side of the law. We do not want any kind of repeat of 2001 where 200 people went prison for a total of 604 years. So please be careful.

Faced by the threat of a group of streetfighting thugs who spread vitriolic anti muslim propaganda you realy expect the local youth to put their faith in the police? The same police who where responsible for arresting and facilitating the jail terms you mention.

There are some good comments (others are under censorship) about the Bradford EDL march and the call for demos from the Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and The Stop Racism and Fascism (SRF) and the debate about how antifascists should oppose them.

Agreed it has be nothing more nothing less, it has to be self organised from the bottom up not from the top and this is why i shall not be in Bradford it is the task of the community, SELF DEFENSE IS NO OFFENSE Lets not forget those calling for a BAN are Searchlight, need we remind people of there corporation with the state?.

Is this article a joke?

Most marches attended by the EDL and 'anti-fascists' don't remain calm because these groups usually choose to get angry with each other and disrupt the peace. The locals don't have any problems remaining calm.

Miss Cartwright should be advising 'anti-fascists' to stay away. But they'd ignore her even if she did. They enjoy the mayhem as they valiantly protect everyone else from hearing the EDL's message. They know we shouldn't be exposed to such views as we are gullible and dim, not clever and caring like they are themselves.
