Riots break out across France

vast minority | 19.10.2010 06:35

RIOTS are breaking out across France, as the population shows its anger at the neoliberal 'austerity' measures being imposed on them by the hated Sarkozy regime.

Secondary school children have been blockading schools and youngsters have been fighting back against the police.

In several cities cars have been torched and molotov cocktails thrown at riot cops.

A college near Le Mans was set on fire and burnt to the ground.

The authorities say that 290 'casseurs' (hooligans) were arrested on Monday alone.

University students, who have not so far been involved, are now about to also join in the battle, raising the stakes still higher.

Because of union blockades of oil refineries, petrol is running out across the country, with two-hour queues forming even where fuels is available.

Airports and railway lines have been blockaded and lorry drivers staging 10mph 'snail' protests to block congest roads.

Poll show a massive 70% of the public support the strike, but President Sarkozy refuses to back down from his authoritarian capitalist position.

Comments the Daily Mail: "Many fear a re-run of the May 1968 riots in Paris when thousands took to the streets to try to bring down the government of President Charles de Gaulle."

Tuesday sees another day of mass action and strikes - and the momentum currently seems to lie firmly with the street.

what i'd do

19.10.2010 07:16

Should sack the strikers and give the jobs to people who want to work.

Anyone who interferes should be shot by the army.

The trouble would soon blow over.Sure, there will be a load of leftist moaning about rights to interfere with everyone elses life, but they can easily be delt with.

the good thing is that shit like this will never happen in england

stupid frenchies

stupid rosbeef

19.10.2010 07:32

and then hang the kids for not going to school -

but don't worry the eengleesh are so bovine we can keep them working till they're dead, and they'll be grateful for the job, if they're not we'll just hang them until they appreciate how lucky they are.

genouille

lol

What an idiotic comment. The french working class are an inspiration and they show the way forward. If you want to work until 70 with no state pension, pay exorbitant rents, high travel cost and basically be a punch bag for the oxbridge elite then be my guess, however those of us who aren't cowards will fight for our dignity.

@narchist

EDL showing their true colours

19.10.2010 08:53

Whats the betting that "stupid frenchies" is a part of the EDL. They make themselves out to be pro working class but like all other nazis their friends of the bosses

not right wing

'Terrorist threat' + nationwide strikes

19.10.2010 09:59

I've been cheered by the growing unity between worker/student groups though personally, I'm pissed off that it's about retirement age rather than the disusting racist treatment of Roma and 'sans papier' people in France.
One thing that worries me is the recent government announcemnents over terrorist threat high alerts. Whenever a government faces internal strife, 'something' happens to unite the country against a shared enemy. Look how the bombing of the Twin Towers united a country to support a war in Afghanistan. I know many will say this is just conspiracy nonsense but I wonder if some outrage may be conveniently just around the corner.
In 1968, amid the country that had ground to a halt, whereby the media had been taken over by the gov, the french authorities created and built up the fear of civil war in France, rolling tanks out into the streets of Paris. That fear, unsurprisingly, drove everyone back into their burrows. Built up fear and threats of terrorism allowed Blair to get this country into a pointless invasion of Iraq.

Fighting the police is plain wrong! Grow up and get real!

19.10.2010 10:56

What stupid idiots fighting the police and fighting the system. I am also appalled that the adults on this website are encouraging those people to break the law! You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Please grow up, get real and get a life and get a proper hobby instead of childish trouble making!

Get real

19.10.2010 11:24

Never a truer word said. We could do with a bit more of that spirit here in the UK!

Crazy Barry

Yeah right

19.10.2010 11:47

Fighting the cops wrong huh? Best just to take the beating is it? Idiot.

What are you even doing on this site? Get back to your mainstream swallowing of anything you've ever been fed, you reactionary gullible fool.

Some great trolling on this thread!

19.10.2010 14:14

The trolls on this thread are showing just the right frame of mind to become rioters. Take some of that anti-establishment anger and mischief-making and put it to some good physical use.

Well done, just the right degree of subtlety - you certainly made a few of us anarchos fall for it.

Now get out there and riot!

If you aren't just armchair troublemakers, that is.

Riot tonight! Everybody let's go!

19.10.2010 19:31

I agree with Anon, while we sit here on our arses, the French are actually doing something. Get out and destroy the shops and the cars of the establishment.

Here's something to inspire you :-)

Why riot?

19.10.2010 23:26

Whats the point exactly?

Not going to make my life any better. Probably worse.

Wont be able to put petrol in my car.
Won't be able to get to work.
I will be out of pocket.

I don't like being out of pocket. I work so i get money to do the things i want to do.
Anyone who stops me doing what i'm legally entitled to do with get a fucking kicking.

If thats the case, I'll be out on the streets with everyone else kicking the shit out of anarchists
Then i'll be voting for which ever party promises to come down hard on these people.
I'm talking long custodial sentences or exile to whatever country will take them. Or the death penalty.

Fuckheads
