Palestine Today 10 27 2010 - mp3 2.5M

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process demanded that Israel act against escalating attacks by Jewish settlers against Palestinian farmers and their olive trees, and demand that Israel bring assailants to justice and that the Palestinian Authority do the same against Palestinian violence. He said such measures will help to achieve an independent Palestinian state that brings freedom, liberty and a bright future of peace next to Israel; and ending the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state is the right and viable solution.

he denounced escalating attacks by Jewish settlers and condemned construction of Jewish settlements in the occupied territories as illegal under the International Law. Minister spokesperson, Yigal Palmor, said that Israel is acting against violence of Jewish settlers. The UN official said that talks should also include Jerusalem, borders, the Right of Return, settlements, water and security.

The Palestinian Prime Minister urged the UN to oblige Israel to implement Security Council resolutions that ensure a just solution but if Israel didn't comply, Palestinian leadership will declare statehood and demand international recognition.

Under police protection, right-wing extremists intend to march in the town of Umm al-Fahm, in the north of Israel to demand the expulsion of Arabs from the country and to commemorate Maer Kahane, the founder of the Kach Movement. At least 1,500 policemen will be deployed in the town. The settlers, led by far-right fundamentalists, are calling for the Islamic Movement in Israel to be outlawed.

Israel decided to allow the fundamentalist right-wingers to march in the town, which is completely populated by Palestinians, the vast majority of whom are Muslim. However, they were informed that they will not be allowed to protest in front of the office of the Islamic Movement, but will be holding their protest nearby the place where protests had been held last year, when clashes between protesters and Arab residents resulted in injuries and the detainment of dozens of residents by the police.

This year, measures meant to limit confrontations between the Arabs and the Israeli protesters include deploying hundreds of policemen

On Tuesday night, a Palestinian boy from Yatta was struck and killed by a police car as he attempted to cross a road, which has no crosswalk. The boy died instantly.

On Wednesday, the Israeli public prosecution postponed sentencing Hatem Abd al-Qader, an official in the Fatah Movement, to the thirtieth of November 2010. He is accused of violating a military order that prevented him from entering the al-Aqsa Mosque, and is also accused of incitement. The Israeli public prosecution demanded that he be imprisoned. However, his defense lawyer requested the court postpone the case.

East of Bethlehem, on Wednesday morning a number of Israeli army soldiers invaded and confiscated a bulldozer and stone extraction equipment belonging to Idrees al-Mator, without giving him any explanation for the confiscation.

The Israeli army detained five Palestinians from villages in the southern part of Nablus after breaking into and ransacking houses and assaulting occupants.

On Wednesday at dawn, Israeli gunboats opened fire at fishing boats off the shoreline in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, preventing them from fishing freely.
Israeli war planes flying flew over the Gaza Strip at low altitudes and carried out an intensive mock air attack. Authorities consider it to be a continuation of the aggressive actions targeting citizens in Gaza preventing them from their livelihood.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Palestinian man was killed by shrapnel fragments from an exploded artillery shell fired by Israeli tanks stationed in the northern Gaza Strip. Two others also arrived suffering shrapnel wounds. A worker, injured by Israeli troops positioned in military towers in the northern Gaza Strip, was also injured while collecting scrap.

Also on Wednesday the Israeli army detained five Palestinians from the villages in the southern part of Nablus. Army personnel carried out the incursions, breaking into many houses, ransacking them and assaulting occupants in the process.Five detainees were taken to to undisclosed locations.
