Vote for a vegan pizza at Pizza Express

vegan | 01.11.2010 18:51 | Animal Liberation | Ecology | Health

Vote to get a vegan pizza on the menu at Pizza Express!

There is a competition run by Pizza Express for a new pizza on their menu. There are five options, one of which is vegan. It is currently in 2nd place. We have until November 12th to vote- we can win this!

Having a vegan pizza on the menu will make life easier for vegans eating out with friends and family, as well as increasing the visibility of veganism.

This is not a site to promote the capitalist interest of a company no matter how well meaning you are....

Brilliant. It's always nice being told to "fuck off" by someone that I don't know and who doesn't know me. Is this how relations between people are gonna be conducted in a post-capitalist world? I hope not.

Try eating food that doesn't in any way involve capitalism. That pretty much leaves you foraging for blackberries mate. Why not engage with working class people instead, like I did when I joined striking firefighters on their picket line today.

Not sure this is really suitable for Indymedia

01.11.2010 19:47

Sure it would be great to have more vegan products, but I'm not really sure Indymedia is the right place for this. Stick to Facebook for stuff like this. It could just be viral spam for all we know. In fact, "competitions" or "surveys" like this are often done precisely as a cheap form of advertising, since they know it will get them mentions for free in ways such as this.

another vegan

oh wow, vegan pizza...

01.11.2010 20:37

They already let you have the pizza without cheese on it, thus making it vegan, so what's the difference here? This is clearly just a way of drumming up more business.

"Having a vegan pizza on the menu will make life easier for vegans eating out with friends and family"

Yea, my life's so hard, if only I could eat out at an overpriced, meh pizza restaurant...

No illusions

01.11.2010 20:56

To "another vegan": Fair enough. I can see this isn't reportage and therefore doesn't fit the criteria for posting on Indymedia, however I thought I'd take the liberty to put it up here 'cos I thought people would understand it's for a good cause and not get too shirty about it.

To "Ae": The difference is that having a standard pizza with the cheese removed is a bit shit and it makes veganism seem to non-vegans like a "hardship". Whereas the one you can vote for actually looks pretty nice. Just 'cos I said that this might make life easier for vegans doesn't mean I'm saying "my life's so hard". Sometimes for the sake of being sociable we have to eat in places that we wouldn't choose ourselves. Of course this competition is a way of drumming up business, I have no illusions about that- so what?

vegan

Agreed

01.11.2010 21:21

Would be nice if people had vegan choices, so it doesn't seem like a fringe pursuit.

As for people shouting fuck off at anyone they disagree with - good luck building public consciousness with that attitude.

Sim1

not the point:

01.11.2010 21:42

That's not really the point though; to vote you have to give an email address and what not, this whole thing is basically to give them your personal details so they can spam you. Can you not see why it was a dumb idea to help them with that? Pizza Express have previously fired someone for speaking out about them making deductions from staff tips, they're hardly a nice company so I wouldn't encourage people to eat there even if they do have a falafel pizza.

If I don't want veganism to look like a hardship then I'll just take them somewhere decent that does vegan food without making a massive song and dance about it - I mean for god's sake, it's not that difficult to find vegan food nowadays, even Wetherspoon's does it!

contamination

01.11.2010 22:19

do you think they care?

Vegan is unnatural

01.11.2010 23:11

Humans evolution is based around a hunter / gratherer lifestyle.
Farming is relatively new and doesn't really fit in with our evolution.

The best food to eat is meat, fist, vegetables, fruit and nuts. Avoid things that are grain based (including pizza) because it really screws up with your insulin slevels and intestines.

I realise some people don't want to eat animals but it really is part of our evolution and what is best for our own health.

morris

Meh

02.11.2010 00:14

I mean this really really is bollox, Pizza Express is totally overpriced and as the vast bulk of the food they sell contains animal product how can the original poster dare to caption this as "animal liberation"

Out of respect for people who fight for animal and human rights this should be removed.

Think of the people from SHAC locked up this week.

Think of Barry Horne.

Think of Mum buying non vegan Iceland Pizzas who could never afford to eat at Pizza Express with her kids.

And to the Indymedia Mods. the Original Post clearly promotes a Capitalist business and as such is in contravention of editorial guidlines.

Majorly

off

02.11.2010 00:28

you capitalist bastards!!

A revolutionary people controlled bacon sandwich beats the shit out of a capitalist vegan pizza.

So fuck off with your advertising bollox.

Alternatively...

02.11.2010 10:26

You could always just pop into the shop and ask for a few boxes, they'd be just as tasty as vegan pizza.

Crazy Barry

I heard a pro-meat group is spamming the poll with votes

02.11.2010 11:34

These polls are just an advertising gimmick to drive traffic to their site - they probably just totally ignore the results. And they can be manipulated so easily by multiple voting (both by us and by animal abusers) that they are totally pointless. Just ignore them!

Interesting fact: original pizzas never had cheese on them anyway - it is only a fairly recent addition.

Apparently the owner of Pizza Express is himself a vegetarian.

veg@n

With friends like these..

02.11.2010 13:06

I didn't know I would get so much abuse for posting this. Apparently, I'm a dick, a twat, a ponce and a capitalist bastard. With friends like these who the fuck needs enemies.. If this is how you relate to people who do fight for human and animal rights, good luck winning over anyone else. Thanks for needlessly crushing my self-esteem, this is the last time I post on here.. Solidarity, eh?

vegan

Good ridince to middle class idiocy!

02.11.2010 15:02

Please please vegan stick to Facebook because that is really where you are at, indymedia is for grown ups....

AR

Don't take negative comments to heart

02.11.2010 15:15

Some of the negative comments will just be trolls who oppose animal rights, so you can ignore them. Other than that it isn't always easy to work out the written and unwritten rules and netiquette about what is suitable for Indymedia. Generally it should be for newsworthy items. This isn't really news, it's a campaign for raising the profile of veganism, and something like email or Facebook would be more appropriate.

So don't let your esteem be crushed and keep posting interesting news here! Good luck,

veg@n

Keep on posting

02.11.2010 17:45

Whilst I agree that this is not the kind of 'news' one expects to see on Indymedia, the contributor realy deserves more respect. Now that the discussion is here perhaps it might as well stay, as it enlightens the reader about the process, though sadly also exposes some ignorance.

It may have been a genuine ignorance of the editorial guidelines that invites the hiding of 'posts with personal or product promotions', but I wonder how many of those commenting have read the guidelines at  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/static/editorial.html (no please, don't bother to tell us if you have, or not, lets just move on.

Pat

Vegan Pizza?

02.11.2010 23:51

It's about time someone found a use for them :)

Fat Kid

Read the Guidelines

03.11.2010 11:05

According to the guidelines comments should not be abusive.

"Personal attack: Articles and/or comments that contain abusive language against other activists or site users. Please make your point without resorting to personal abuse."
These should be hidden.

Good luck to the vegan pizza I say... and down with extremist vegans and anti-capitalists who are being abusive.

Brian B and vegan Please Fuck off back to facebook

03.11.2010 12:01

You so obviously have no idea what Indymedia is about so why the hell are you here, nothing more to be said please move on...

Please

Solidarity to the poster – fuck the uptight losers!

03.11.2010 18:08

The assholes that have been posting shit about this need to get a fuckin grip. The end of capitalism isn't gonna' happen tomorrow and someone trying to get more vegan food deserves some credit.

What the fuck do you think your comments achieved a part from alienating one of the minority of people that actually supported you and cared what you had to say about the world?

(A) Red & Black

oh please

03.11.2010 23:18

>> You so obviously have no idea what Indymedia is about so why the hell are you here, nothing more to be said please move on...

Clearly, you don't have a clue what this site is about yourself. Your naivety is only outweighed by you stupidity and intolerance. Why don't you fuck off back to stormfront and leave people to post their informative posts in peace?

dumbass

I assume dumbass, (A) et al are all the same pro capitalist idiots.

04.11.2010 08:36

For fuck sake, vegan is trying to promote pizza express on indymedia, anyone who goes along with that in anyway can not claim to be anything but a confused capitalist. I can understand that vegan as part of AR is single issue minded so his thoughts are fuck everything else but seriously you folks should, to save you more embarrasment, stick and stay with Facebook.

Why is it that anyone who challanges the ridiculousness of some AR people are always called Trolls or Nazi's.... Grow up you Tit.

@narchist

We ain't the same person, fucking get over yourself

04.11.2010 12:48

I have no idea about the others but I am not them. You seem proper paranoid I don't think you are a 'troll' – never said that - just a jumped up little so-called 'anarchist' of the authoritarian bureaucrat kind that like pointing out when people, who could otherwise be comrades, are just not 'anarchist enough'. Your kind is reason so many have a stereotype of anarchists. As far I can see some of most radical activists are the animal activist lot in UK, see potential not conflict. In any case for fucks sake people need to eat and some of those people are vegan!

(A) Red & Black

shocked!

04.11.2010 20:09

I am shocked at all the name calling, I don't know who posted the article but whoever it was it well meaning and they certainly don't deserve to be insulted and as for the vegan pizza I would have liked to have seen vegan cheese on top ;op
