German Press on Kennedy + germany update

j | 17.01.2011 12:22

Hey germans, please post or link here to German press, especially any English translations.

Here is the piece from Der Spiegel (weekly news magazine) print version, out since yesterday, so it misses Mark's "coming out" where he makes most activists feel physically ill with his comments, and he positions himself for a good settlement/compensation. Also since this Spiegel article was written, more has come out about Ireland and Iceland, so the quotes here are by now less relevant than direct quotes from activists in those countries.

Nice to hear Mark saying how "But the world of undercover policing is grey and murky. There is some bad stuff going on. Really bad stuff..."
But, Mark, would you consider providing a bit more details that were actually useful to the people you considered your friends for 7+ years? I won't hold my breath.

I can tell you, there is a real positive "bounce" effect here with the media and political side of things, where a little info from Germany about another country gets printed, pushing press interest there, then something there gets published and then brought to parliament level here very quickly getting a big-ass spotlight shown on the issue of police repression. Activists from other countries also getting in touch with people here because of so much German attention, making it possible to share ideas on international press strategies. I think this has been working extremely well with the informal international cooperation.

Other news is that this Kennedy case can be connected to the recently exposed German undercover cop "Simon Brenner", positively increasing attention to both stories:
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2010/12/470949.html
Now there are beginnings of efforts to link the two, with first discussion with German anti-repression group Rote Hilfe (Red Help): www.rote-hilfe.de

There is a court case related to G8 2007 coming up, based partially on police intelligence. So, we will see how the Kennedy case fits in, given that he says publicly he worked with German police. More later by someone else on that? This again is where it would be great if anyone knows of Mark acting as agent provocateur in germany, or doing things like paying bills or paying costs for activists to come over here.

Also, it says here that the UK undercover cop "Mark Jacobs" was in Germany:
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2011/01/472162.html
other links say he came to G8 2007, and Freiburg, Germany. can anyone send info about that, like, did he have german contacts?

sorry about posts in the last couple of days asking for more information, i didn't mean to imply anyone is "withholding" info. what i mean is, if anyone has evidence of Mark acting concretely in any country an as agent provocateur, provoking violence, i would like to get that info and put it to use here. there has been no proper time to organise collectively here, so there's a lot of chaos in my opinion on how to deal with this. i hope we stick together and figure out together how to best strategise to move ahead.

there has been no time yet to organise any group here formally in Germany, so, there is no transparent group yet to deal with this case. as far as i know, the people doing work on this so far are just a small number who people who "knew" mark personally, possibly motivating them to take action by his huge acts of betrayal. at the same time, it's clear that one individual like Mark is not the only problem, but the entire system that creates such situations. (If you want my humble opinion.)

An English version of this Spiegel article should be online soon, so people can please post more links when they have them. I think many consider Der Spiegel the most influential print news in Germany, not sure.

I can tell you, we in Germany are really lucky to have such relatively good mainstream press (although the yellow press here is also really bad). If we were in USA or Japan all of this work would be much more difficult.

Much solidarity to all of you from across the channel.

to be continued...
