Sukey slip closer into the arms of the Met

Polly Filla | 24.03.2011 00:21 | Public sector cuts | Repression | Technology

Sukey have changed their their Warning To Idiots page to come across a little more, er user friendly.

The original warning, directed at those coming on demonstrations, has been changed from "generally being an anti-social idiot" to "generally planning to incite violence or harm" without the merest hint at what happened jody mcintyre, alfie meadows or ian tomlinson, and countless other unpublicised acts of brutality meted by police on recent demonstrations

Perhaps in future Sukey will edit their website to say “if you come to demonstrations intent on causing violence and harm to school children, people in wheelchairs and newspaper vendors walking away with his hands in his pocket who was never part of the demonstration in the first place Sukey is definitely for you" especially after their secret meeting with top police officals, who it seems Sukey are more than willing to assist.

Who are these Sukey idiots?

24.03.2011 11:45

Really, who are these Sukey idiots? They think they are in some way part of the movement. Which police do they think they are talking to? A different police to the one who was kettling, riding horses into the crowd, knocking people's teeth out and nicking people (aside from the deaths in custody and general repression of social movements). Beggars belief!

Social Media and Protesting

24.03.2011 12:45

I'd like to add some thoughts to this whole Sukie and social media thing, because this matter becomes more and more important recently.

First of all: No digital communication can be claimed safe. Perhaps the Met's arsenal is limited, because they are not a specialised intelligence service, but they have access to other government agencies whose only purpose is to gather intel on any possible threat against the government. Since all protests are challenging those in power, no matter how tiny is it, these services are always "on the case". Digital communication in our times is highly centralized (yes, the internet IS CENTRALIZED too!) therefore:
1. It can be wiretapped easily, because it was designed for this reason.
2. It can be manipulated easily, because this its primary purpose.

Anytime if you use any digital communication, you must be aware of this, and restrict the information to protect your privacy. People do not credit recently much to privacy: Many of us thinks that they have nothing to hide (the "good" protestors) their behaviour in delicate situation is as much open as having some chat about the last night party on facebook. In fact, although unaware their exact role, they are the perfect snitches and gossip mongers. Anyone, who seeks to challenge the power, should be careful to choose what kind of friends she is informing even verbally.

Concerning the social media, I know for fact because of my profession, that these means of communication are highly useful for any policing operation. We should listen more what Richard Stallman said in his conference speech, which was published on this site (  http://london.indymedia.org/articles/7759). Using server-client based solution is as "evil" as one can think of, leaving us vulnerable to any external policing.

My proposition is:
1. DO NOT USE any social network, neither sukie, neither facebook, twitter so on. I know this sounds almost ridiculous in these "social networking" times but it is more than dangerous.
2. Look for stone-age alternatives and give more attention to the credibility of the person you sharing experiences and information with rather than looking for some huge number of followers!
3. Look for means to obfuscate any central information network, like cell phones, the radio communication between cops and TUC filths/stewards, sabotage the mainstream media presence!
