Um... what?

Claiming victory over the BNP and then resting on our laurels isn't going to change the fundamental processes that lead people to the far right. It jsut makes us complacent. Only a politicised anti-fascism that involves ideological and physical confrontation, as part of a broader strategy of social change, can do this.
Ironically, this is exactly what is missing from the anti-fascist 'movement' right now.

Exactly what I was thinking

The BNP are the flagship and the EDL the sailors, but with nobody to vote for they have no ship to sail, their voice will be going unheard in the ballot box, this isolation, will breed anger, make no mistake, but in doing so they will be seen for what they are.
Anyway the fight continues, the BNP are finished in the once stronghold of Bradford, who's next on the list.

It is a partial victory against the far right

Given the decline of the BNP, this will be seen by enthusiastic supporters of the BNP as a failure, and as such a failure of the far right. It is a partial failure, because there are always pastures new, but the sudden 'jumping off a cliff' by the 'most succesful far right party in UK history' (as some anti fascists said) IS a victory for anti fascists, even if it is by default.
We should claim a partial victory over the far right with the demise of the BNP, which was very recently causing some anti fascists to hype up their threat to forward their particular line of analysis. Those of us who always said that the BNP was a 'paper tiger' can take some comfort from what has happened.
