BBC pro nuke disgraceful editing

Pyeye | 23.06.2011 22:07 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Energy Crisis

On a day that the BBC reports of the confirmed 8 sites for nuklear new build. The editor responsible for the comments, 'editor's picks', exposes themself.

They expose themself as a pro nuke monger. Hellbent on radioactive pollution for the next 50'000 generations to come, do they not realise?

Glad to see the government's holding it's nerve of this issue. It would be very easy to get spooked by what was, when all's said and done, a very unusual situation in Japan, and the environmental repercussions of increasing our dependence on fossil fuels and inefficient 'renewables' could be severe.

I hav no problem with the generating of nuclear power, but not enough attention is given to the disposal of nuclear waste ad its costs!

These disposal costs are expensive and shoud be included in the running costs.

The Pandora's box was opened a long time ago and nuclear accidents observe no international boundaries. Saying no to nuclear will not protect the UK from say a French accident. At least developing nuclear keeps us at the forefront of cutting edge high value technology and is the only really viable way of controlling greenhouse emissions in a critical timeframe.

I appreciate that there aren't many viable options but in the wake of the ongoing and seemingly endless horror in Japan I just think that they must find alternatives. Somehow forcing people to be less wasteful must go some way to avoiding building more of these monsters.

The disasters are few and far between but as Japan is seeing, when it goes wrong it is an unarrestable catastrophe.

This is a mix of good and bad news.Good in the sense of energy security, bad if left to speculators to finance it as that means the 'end user',as in the consumer, end up paying extortionate prices for energy generated.Modern reactors and safety regulations make this a safe form of electricity generation,I'm all in favour.

ooo

So, Agents or stupid people?

no mention of the fukushima 'guinea pig' schools

so its over to IAEA news and...
 http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/tsunamiupdate01.html
...Oh, it stopped reporting Fukushima 2nd June.

G, well who'd have guessed?
In order to give the anti-nuke lobby a response, I would like to put forward a response.
Responsibility has to be put, firmly, at the top of the agenda.
Octo3, to be or not to be, at Hinkley. Be Ready!

Scope for further action, to bring down the machine, will be addressed.

the truth is that many people who would naturally be anti nuclear are being pro, because the supposedly eco friendly alternatives options arn't.
It seems that every one is pro "energy security."

And another truth is that if the lights go out we won't all die.

I think that, what the world needs, on an environmental level, is a way of measuring the toxic effects of every industry, not just the immediate effects but also the lifetime effects of all activities of that industry.

I wonder how the nuclear industry would compare once nuclear wastes million year legacy is taken into consideration on top of the never ending accidents and disasters.

toxic effect against longevity = total (deaths and mutations)

The fact of the matter is, there are many ways to store energy, a little imagination opens many doors, the fact they are left closed is because grid power has always been cheap. Nuklear power is not the answer for energy needs, it is the answer for militarism needs.

Why no mention of the proposed new design, being PWR with MOX fuel rods. Exactly the same as Fukishima. The same design of; any problem WILL garantee three days to detonation. Not a "hydrogen" blast, but a nuclear chain reaction blast. MOX contains low grade plutonium which when detonated (eg.chernobyl) has far more dangerous isotopes.

No mention of the billions spent and major debts at Sellafields MOX & Plutonium factory. Which is facing serious bankruptcy.

Central government is not funding any new construction works, so I dont think it will happen. International corporations might but they've got other jobs to do, in india etc.

Other options are avaliable; Russia is looking at AGRs, USA is looking at magnox, India is looking at thorium.
