NO CLASS (MY ARSE) by Sean Cregan

Sean Cregan | 18.07.2011 18:02 | Anti-racism | Birmingham | Liverpool

A poem written in HMP Wormwood Scrubs by antifascist prisoner Sean Cregan.

They say that class don't matter,
But that just cannot be,
The jury said they're innocent,
They each had a degree.
No previous bad character,
And references galore,
A soldier and a nurse for friends,
Well who could ask for more?
They say we are all equal,
It's simply just not true,
The way the law applies to me,
Does not apply to you.
We all sat in the courtroom,
Accused of the same crime,
You're getting on with your life,
I'm in here doing time.
I'm angry at the system,
The judges and the law,
That sit in ivory towers,
The rich above the poor.
This is our 'big society',
It isn't worth a cus,
There'll always be one law for them,
Another one for us.

Sean Cregan

too much time

well, previous convictions, references etc do count.
at the end of the day, if you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime

not a bad poem i guess. Don't something to make money

I didn't think...

...he could read let alone write decent poetry! ; )

Sean is a top lad and a true comrade he deserves our support. It's good to know that at least there are some people left who realise the struggle for liberation starts and ends with the destruction of class difference.

Class war inside the Movement?

Who are the posh antifa who were cleared by the jury? Was there really a noticeable socio-economic difference between the seven who were convicted and the three or four who were acquitted?

It's a question of perception.

The point made by the poem is that it matters more what you are percieved to be than what the evidence points to. It is not a criticism of his co-defendants more a criticism of the class prejudice that permeates the judicial system and every other facet of society.

Which is why Charlie Gilmour got off so lightly...

Sounds like he is moaning about his sentence

21.07.2011 17:51

Maybe he shouldn't have done the crime?

Maybe, like those who opposed Mosely, Hitler, Franco, and Mussolini, he didn't think fighting fascism WAS a crime.
