Given the appalling and mindless violence that is taking place I think it perfectly acceptable to help ensure that these thugs are betrayed and put into prison as quickly as possible. I have no idea why Indymedia is being used to justify what is entirely idiotic and foolish thuggery.

These people are drug dealers and gangsters and represent a problem for everybody. What they are doing now gives the police, the courts and the government every excuse they could possibly want to put into practice the measures they need to undermine our entire freedoms.

the 'poor' are not poor. They have the latest smartphones, expensive clothes, expensive trainers.
It is all status symbols to show how hard they are.

It is NOT my problem that an angry youth decides to sit on his arse, play an xbox, and live like a feral.

However, if you want to make it my problem and blame it on me, then you need to give me the authority to run the ferals life so that i can turn it around for the better. This means getting them out of bed at 6am and putting them to work.

I am judged as poor because I wear very cheap clothes (army surplus) and have a 5 year old Nokia. That in itself is wrong as all I desire is functional items.

good for you. I'm similar - i don't crave material things and get lot of clothes off ebay.
I don't consider myself poor. Got somewhere to live, got food to put in my mouth. NHS (albeit its a bit useless). Better off than most people in the world and certainly don't need to rob shops for a new pair of trainers.

And why do you think it is that "the poor" feel the need to have the latest smartphones, expensive clothes, expensive footwear etc. It's because the consumer lifestyle is pushed down their throats through a constant bombardment of marketing and advertising.

I don't agree with what these thugs have done...I think we should go into these areas and beat the living shit out of them. Just so they know that these streets are our streets. It would solve a lot of problems i'm sure (although it woudn't be very sociable)

But as far as advertising is concerned. Couldn't it be equally said that commercialisation and advertising are now so successful, that major citywide rioting is occurring in Western societies as the aspirant's are now burning shops down and rioting to get at these goods. And that these label festooned yobberati are the first sign that consumerism is...about to consume itself!

Regarding no-no borders argument: erm I'm pretty sure most of the rioters where born here.

This does not justify their actions but I think many parties are to blame: the kids themselves, their parents, their schools and the current and previous governments.

Maybe a lot of these youngsters are from drug dealing families, but as prohibition actually makes dealing a viable prospect for making money you can hardly blame them.

Anarchy should be about taking appropriate responsibility for one's actions.

Yes the youth should know better, but so should the police and the rest of society.

imc-nl used to be very on it with hiding posts so i know it can be done. if there isn't the (wo)manpower to be checking every post then i would suggest a moderated newswire. also a lot of work but something needs to be done.
