Darcus Howe, writer and broadcaster names the 2011 riots an insurrection on the BBC. In this important turn in the discourse on the 2011 riots, Darcus Howe also links these events with those in Greece Syria and other parts of the world.

Darcus Howe, writer and broadcaster names the 2011 riots an 'insurrection of the masses of the people' on the BBC. In this important turn in the discourse on the 2011 riots, Darcus Howe also links these events with those in Port of Spain Trinidad, Syria and other parts of the world. (3.20 mins ish).

As shown in the link below globally he refers to the violence as the 'nature of the historical moment'

The BBC presenter's only responses is to accuse him of being a rioter.

Sorry for posting from the BBC, just an important clip that won't be repeated on the mainstream media channels.

Gotta love the 'objectivity' of that BBC woman interviewer!

Imagine! When the police kill somebody, you're not allowed to comment on what happened until the police get their lies cleaned of contradictions and issue their version of what happened.

Some historical context on why this interview is so awful...

10.08.2011 11:15

Darcus Howe, as part of the Mangrove Nine, was aquitted decades ago of trumped up, racially motivated charges of "rioting". That is why the BBC presenter is sooo wrong to brand him an old rioter, as this view was taken from the police racism of the 60's and 70's, and ultimatly disproved in a court of law.

BBC Cut key points in interview with 'rioter'

10.08.2011 11:19

Newsnight 09/08/2011) last night was very very fun to watch. There were a couple of panellists whose friends are the kids involved. They articulate that their friends feel that the corruption of government, bankers and the general greed and violence that they have been spoon fed by consumerist society explains what is happening (not justifying it). It really is thrilling stuff, the kids, conscious or not, are holding a mirror up to the power centres and just reflecting back. I suggest grabbing the newsnight footage as well as I doubt it will remain for long.

p.s. I got huff post to make a few corrections (rightly so), It might seem pedantic but using the word historical rather the hysterical completely shifts the discourse to a more macro critique of our power centres and the type of hyper-competitive consumerist society we have.
