EDL's Tommy Robinson threatens the entire Muslim community of Britain

Anon | 04.09.2011 12:36 | Anti-racism

The claim of being opposed only to 'extremists' and being non violent has been dropped by the EDL. With the recent links to the mass killer Anders Brevik the following quote from Tommy Robinson aka Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is worrying indeed.

Speech from yesterday's march. He was banned from attending under bail conditions. He was arrested later in the day.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAGnzu5V3zE

"Every single muslim watching this video on youtube, on 77, you got away with killing and maiming british citizens ... you had better understand that we have built a network from one end of the country to the other end... and the islamic community will feel the full force of the English Defence League if we see any of our British citizens killed maimed or hurt on British soil ever again."

So if some Islamist terrorists carry out another 77 style attack, it will be the fault of any Muslim living in Britain and they should be attacked?

Bands who support the EDL

re: Bands who support the EDL

Do you have references for these? I done a quick search on Cockney Rejects for example, and ll I can find is:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockney_Rejects
Cockney Rejects expressed contempt for all politicians in their lyrics, and they rejected media claims that they had a British Movement following, or that the band members supported the views of that far right group. In their first Sounds interview, they mockingly referred to the British Movement as the "German Movement" and stated that many of their heroes were black boxers. Jeff Turner's autobiography Cockney Reject describes an incident in which the band members and their supporters had a massive fight against British Movement members at one of Cockney Rejects' early concerts.

Are you sure you aren't an EDL supporter trying to big up your bigotry by trying to falsely associate it with bands?

Evidence?

04.09.2011 13:43

I agree with 'anon' - there is no evidence here, and the post seems to amount to an assumption that all working class/skinhead bands are racist. Here are a few facts -

1. Cock sparrer have spoken out against the far right (and far left) in many of their songs. They have labelled themselves as anti racist, and activley distanced themselves from racist groups in the past. It is true that the EDL have adopted 'England Belongs to Me' as an anthem, but that isn't something the band has - to my knowledge - endorsed.

2. The Business have also vocally rejected racist groups in the past (one of their albums specifically addressed this with the title 'against political extremism, but still against the system'). The song on the YouTube link was actually recorded fairly recentley with the Dropkick Murphies - a band famous for supporting left wing causes. Hardly the logical bedfellows of Pro-EDL bands.

On the other hand, the 4-skins have famously played happily for far right causes and audiences. I think what 'music journalist' has done is assume that all skinhead/oi music is racist, probably because s/he assumes all working class men or skinheads are racist.

Some proper evidence please!

The EDL is not racist

04.09.2011 13:59

Why is it racist to speak out against Islamic extremism like the EDL do? Islamic extremism and Islamic terrorism is a major world problem and should not be ignored. On this and other far left websites anyone who doesn't agree that Islamic extremism does not exist, that Islam is totally peaceful and doesn't agree that the 9/11 and 7/7 terrorist attacks were done by the American and British governments is labelled a fascist racist.

At Realist

04.09.2011 14:29

No one is saying that Islamic extremism is okay, and only mutters think 9/11 was an inside job. A couple of things stop me from supporting the EDL -

1. Despite claims not to be racist, the EDL shows the opposite is true at almost every opportunity. There are so many examples, I can't be bothered to list them, but they include indiscriminate anti-Asian violence, racist banter on message boards and policies that show a general hatred of muslims, not just the extremists (such as anti mosque building campaigns, and opposition to halal food. P.s, as soon as you put down the factory farmed maccy ds and burger van shite, I'll believe you give a toss about halal slaughtered animals).

2. The EDL has no sense of proportion. If islamic extremists were anything other than a pathetic minority, I would be more inclined to fight them. They aren't even a significant force within the Muslim community, let alone society as a whole. If they look like being a serious threat, then they should be confronted but as it stands they are (along with their counterparts on the far right) an isolated group of nutters who everyone laughs at.

Stop regurgitating old stereotypes and look at some REAL extremist bands...

04.09.2011 14:30

Music journalist, you're an idiot and about 25 years out of date.

In addition to the previous poster's comments, Red Alert were always a left-leaning band associated with other North-east leftist Oi bands like Red London and Angelic Upstarts. You're way off the mark there.

Blitz haven't existed for a long time. Nothing dodgy about them when they did.

The current reformed version of the 4-Skins is the only band on there which is in any way dodgy - nothing dubious about their old stuff but the recent album has some anti-immigration lyrics that would probably find approval amongst the EDL demographic.

The Business, Sparrer and the Rejects... none of them has ever pushed a right-wing agenda and they have all at various times spoken out against right-wing (and left-wing) extremism and racism.

Don't slate the Oi scene or assume that someone with a shaved head and boots is a racist idiot - you're laughably wrong there. And just because you see an England flag, doesn't automatically mean racism... Obviously there are some right-wing dicks around, but an awful lot of skinheads are exactly the opposite, and some of the finest antifascists I've ever met have been skins.

Some current UK punk & Oi bands that are worth looking out for becuase they ACTUALLY ARE right-wing / racist or openly play / associate with right-wing / racist types:

Skinfull
TMF (Tattooed Mother F*ckers)
Code 1
Pressure 28
Loyalty
IC1
Bakers Dozen
Streetpunk Drunks
London Diehards
Outclass
Citizen Keyne

Obviously there's a whole separate Blood &Honour nazi scene that operates in virtual secrecy, but the above list includes bands who all play openly and regularly in the UK, and any of their gigs are likely to attract a far-right element.

In fact a number of these dodgy bands are playing at 'Thugfest' in Dagenham, at a venue called The Cherry Tree on on 10th September. Videos from last year's 'Thugfest' showed a load of boneheads, plenty seig-heilling and some European extremist bands like Short Cropped playing. Charming.

"Bands who support" post is BULLSHIT

04.09.2011 19:00

Tommy Robinson's comments are disgraceful but the "bands who support" post is utter bullshit. Some of these bands are right-wing, some are not, some don't even exist any more, the main man behind Blitz for instance DIED in 2007, this post is just pure shit-stirring

EDL organiser Jeff Marsh posted the original "Bands who support the EDL" comment - he's trying to con Anti-Fascists into a/ wasting our time and energy and b/ in effect, smear ourselves, by trying to trick us into campaigning against people who aren't really EDL supporters. The "EDL is not racist" comment was also posted by Jeff Marsh
