N9: Pics of moment undercover cops arrest protester

n9admin | 11.11.2011 17:03 | Policing | Repression

This is the moment several undercover police, dressed as protesters, drag a person from the crowd at the student demo on Nov 9. As is clear to see one cop is dragging the person by the throat while others hold his arms down. [All the coppers are earing blue wristabnds]. This is clearly not in any recognised legitimate police arrest manoeuvre and certainly isn’t sanctioned by the police authorities. Names of these officers as soon as possible please. Violent scum like this should not be on our streets.

Why was he brutally attacked?

He's about 17-what was his supposed crime to warrent such violence?

arrest confirmed

11.11.2011 18:12

according to official police figures people were arrested for:

violent disorder, affray, going equipped (to commit criminal damage), having a offensive weapon, refusing to remove a mask under s60aa (and several breaches of the peace)

If the kid isn't one of the people arrested for violent disorder or affray the coppers have fucked up big time!!

@manic wednesday"coppers have fucked up big time!!"

11.11.2011 19:36

and? You think the media cares or society cares about something like this? You think this is the first time these pricks have harassed, abused, violated, beaten up, killed and gotten away with it? You have alot to learn my friend. This is no part time game but a reality for those whose life is constantly and continually abused by the state and all its aparatus and the time for fighting against this shit is now and for a long time into the future..

fuck off auntie christ

11.11.2011 20:08

I'm auntie christ, I've seen more police repression than you, anyone feeling shock at repression can't be as hardcore as me.

give a shit

11.11.2011 20:08

less of the preaching aunty, deal with what's in front of you. The kid will have to be charged, the police will have to come and give evidence, we will be in court, we will get their details, we will see the kid get found not guilty, we will see a call for the prosecution of the coppers acting unlawfully, and we will see the kid get a fuck load of compensation for his trouble.

you old enough to order a pint at the bar?

The real question

11.11.2011 20:18

There seems to be many many people there who are not helping the poor guy. Why? Time to lose the fear-imagine it was you being attacked by violent filthy scum-you'd want to be freed.

Some advice on de-arresting is needed please!

12.11.2011 08:22

Gill is right, they were outnumbered and the kid could have been helped out. But we need to start educating each other about what to do in these situations. Personanly, I admit to being ignorant about tactics. Educate me. Do we fight them or would that backfire? My partner says that the tactic a few years ago in Bolivia was to latch on to the arrestee - link arms or hold on to them and they would be freed. Does this work? I've never seen anyone de-arrested, but if you have please enlighten us. Take a look at this video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2evPgG1RrDg
and tell us what should have been done. We need to act together when this shit happens.

btw, The pigs weren't disguised as protesters, they look more like EDL members. Ugly racists.

I

12.11.2011 14:05

believe we shouldn't let them to come into the rally at all. When we see cops trying to get into the rally, the people from the most outside lines should hold each other and create a human chain. See the video to understand better what I mean.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-HIELEATJ0&feature=related

or we take the sidewalk and they end up being kettled among hundreds of protesters. I insist though that when we see a cop running towards the body of protest we don't break, we hold the person next to us and create a chain. If they want to come through they have to use violence to absolutely peaceful protesters.

de-arresting

12.11.2011 15:02

Past experience tells me that holding or latching onto the arrested person results in them being pulled, or rather torn between the cops and friends and them getting very hurt. The cops then blame any injuries on the person's friends.
One effective method (ok, used it once and it worked!) is to dive forwards in a small group between them to body-block the cops from the person they've grabbed. No hands on coppers or your friend. The block assault makes the cops step back in a defensive action, just for a second or two, but enough to et the friend escape. You then split up suddenly, shooting off in different directions cos other cops pile in quickly.
I'd like to hear of other methods/experiences too.

de-arresting

12.11.2011 16:36

Years ago at a smokey bears picnic (yes that long ago!) We got attacked by a bunch of pigs and it was my first experience of this shit. After the initial shock i shouted out " everyone grab hold of a cop!" With three or four us simply holding on to each cop they were completely confused and were quickly ordered to retreat by their commanding officer.

On-line security

12.11.2011 18:10

Might sound a bit off-topic but.... one way to ensure a bit more online security is to put a bit of insulating tape over the webcam on your computer. We don't know for sure the cops use people's webcams to watch activists, but we don't know for sure that they don't, and it's easy to take off when necesssary, so you've got nothing to lose by giving yourself a bit more peace of mind. Think of modern computers as the TVs that watch people in Orwell's "1984".

next thing...

13.11.2011 23:38

yeah everyone is starting to get the idea of wearing black, the next stage is to get them to stick together, link arms, i mean they're must of been 400 of us. if we'd all stuck together we would of got kettled, but whats so bad about that?
if you really want to cause major trouble, you'd be clever to do it away from the demonstation.

de-arresting, is a tricky one, you either have guts of steel, or your really stupid. I mean look at those cops, they're pritty beefy.

 http://n9anarchistbloc.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/n9-anachist-bloc.jpg

and what happened to the anarchist bloc? i stopped to do up my shoelaces, and it disappared. there were so many of, but we spread out, if we'd stuck together it would of been a massive group of us, a good photo opportunity for future propaganda. but instead everyone spread out and made themselves easy targets for the snatch squads.

solidarity

14.11.2011 05:36

any one know what happened next? what station he went to, what he was charged with, when he is due in court?

lots of people fucked up, allowed this to happen right in front of them. however its not too late to act in solidarity. people are up before judges every day at the moment, people like you. contact green and black cross, or legal defence and monitoring group, to volunteer some time doing court support with these people. find out when they are next holding a training day so you can learn how to be a useful witness, how to be a useful legal observer, how to support arrestees at the cop shop and defendants at court.

turn off your computer and do something truly useful. please!

de-arresting

14.11.2011 10:28

So yes to the people who've talked about not idly standing by, getting organised in affinity groups beforehand, all wearing black and having the sides protected...but it's all very good to rant about this here, but it doesn't get anywhere. We don't have that culture by and large. So how do we create it? Not by talking on the internet, but about making links in advance with people where we live, having talks about tactics, and training ourselves in groups in advance. Then, we could start changing the culture on protests, leaflet others etc.

Otherwise, it's just macho posturing and empty talk. Practical solidarity with the arrested makes more sense now, than criticising each other. It's pretty damn scary, even when you've had experience of repression and aren't long-term traumatised by it (yet).

Spotting an arrest about to happen is the best thing - either a senior copper pointing someone out from behind police lines, and a small group of cops ready to charge through their line and into the crowd, or less often - like here - a set of people starting to behave in the same way, looking round, getting ready to act, moving in on someone. That way you can get the person they want the fuck out of there and form a linked line in the way.

So, de-arresting IS possible in some circumstances, but if it's not done properly and/or you don't have luck on your side, it can end up in more arrests and cops charging in even more. Do NOT grab the cops - unless you are EXCEEDINGLY lucky and have circumstances on your side, you will be charged with assaulting a copper - not a good charge! There may be opportunities when you and a few friends can get in the path of their escape, and between the person they've grabbed and their route out, and it might work to get the original arrestee away, and it might work that you don't get arrested instead, but generally it won't. What we need is groups of people who are used to working together in affinity groups, and who've tried out de-arresting many times in a 'training situation'. These groups can be alert and ready to intervene, not phased by the cop violence and the police tactical training. The most important thing in these circumstances is to act swiftly. By the time they've got someone to the ground and are clearing a sterile area around them, ready to move to a nearby police line, or be rescued by more cops, it's too late.

Then we can be ready to de-arrest successfully, without getting more people nicked and up for serious charges.

and if you spot and challenge undercover cops in the crowd, keep following them so everyone knows, and look out for more. There's a video of some people challenging ones in this crowd, but then I think leaving them to meld back into the crowd for people who don't have the same spotting skills.

Latest cop photos from Fitwatch

More of the cop in the black hoodie, the cop with the Palestinian scarf, and the thug with the white-rimmed cap (standing next to uniformed officer CW2061), also another cop who can be seen wearing a blue hoodie in the photos above - this time brandishing his police ID card

These photos are from Fitwatch, but enhanced (and - note to Fitwatch - you should try sharpening and brightening pix if and when necessary / possible to make them as easy as possible to recognise)

And keep an eye on the other thread for updates .......

Exactly what hgfjdskl and also builder said at the end of the first paragraph. It is really important to get start organized in our schools, workplaces and neighborhoods. Take your friends write an article and go leafleting at your nearest college/university, job center, the main square of your neighborhood etc etc.

What I can't understand though is why you do not make flags or placards from thicker piece of wood. From what I seen on the N9 and what I heard for the cops attitude in the August and in the last year rallies I think is getting necessary. The guys were attacking whichever face didn't like it without a reason. My biggest query however is whether there is anyone else to resist to what is coming except the anarchists?

On N9 we saw the end of rally, people who saw the protest and wanted to join didn't allow to do it, people from the protest who wanted to approach people outside the protest and leaflet or have a chat with them didn't allow to do it , do something symbolic like close a street for a bit of time not even to imagine it and the cherry on the top people were allowed to stay gathered only for two hours and if we add to this the cops who were filming even from the terrace - I imagine the protection of anonymity doesn't apply for protesters in Britain - and the worsening of economy I am afraid that the fascism is coming step by step closer and closer - of course not only in Britain. I really wonder though what is the attitude of the other pieces of the movement. They really can't see what is coming and they are really ok with the transform of a rally to a carnival?

Let the people know when is the court for the arrested guys so they can come down and give some support.

A friend
