Occupy London stock exchange camp coming under increasing night time attack

Defend Occupy LSX | 10.12.2011 16:44

There has been a big increase in the number of late night attacks by drunken bankers on the occupy London stock exchange camp outside St Paul's Cathedral. Most of these attacks occur between 1am and 3am in the morning at weekends when local late night bars close.

We need far more people there at night to defend the camp, especially now as the police presence outside the camp has been drastically reduced to almost nothing. People staying there are going to get seriously injured or even killed if the attacks on the camp are not stopped.

don't you dare ask me or anyone else for solidarity when you know full well tom is in prison tonight, since court on wednesday, and not one of you turned up to support him.

you reap what you sow, innit.

Tom

10.12.2011 17:34

What's Tom in prison for?

@ darren

10.12.2011 19:41

is it relevant? you tell me.

he was nicked on nov 30th leaving the bank of ideas. nobody told him a section 30 meant he would be searched as soon as he stepped outside, and nobody turned up court to support him. that seems to me to be what matters.

sally

Sorry to hear but....

10.12.2011 21:27

Isn't it time you go home? The impact of the camp has been lost. The media have got bored of reporting it and passers by just see you as part of the furniture now. You are costing tax payers and local businesses are losing money.

"reap what you sow, innit"

10.12.2011 23:41

Presumably you were there right? So someone did support him. No other friends or family?
If no-one wanted to go along, it's maybe that he hasn't built up friendly enough relationships in his life.
But hey, you reap what you sow, innit.

solidarity means

11.12.2011 01:52

supporting comrades not just our mates in our exclusive little cliques.

solidarity should never be the prize in a popularity contest. it should be there for all who struggle alongside us, who work with us in projects and actions, to all of the 99% not just the "cool" and popular ones.

i was not there to support him, i was in court myself and met him there while waiting to go in.

why are you making excuses for this shit behaviour? how you can you possibly justify letting someone get sent down without support?

sally

...pushy vultures

11.12.2011 11:06

...because "an0n" is a troll, and wants people to fight each other.

When under attack, then self defense is acceptable , even admirable. I believe that one is also within one's rights to defend another person from assault.

Isn't this what you guys wanted???!
No you got it - you are complaining? Make your minds up.

Also,
Why should someone have told 'Tom' about the section 30.
Anarchist = self-sufficient

Dreadful comments.

"Isn't it time you go home? The impact of the camp has been lost. The media have got bored of reporting it and passers by just see you as part of the furniture now. You are costing tax payers and local businesses are losing money."

The camp is in it for the long run.

The camp is not costing the tax-payer or local businesses money.

The media never care about anything save what makes them a profit, they have simply moved onto something else that is profitable.

Sally, who is Tom what was he arrested for and why are you complaining about this here?

In any movement you are expected to stand on your own two feet and you are expected to fight your own corner. You can't simply get arrested and then expect everybody and their dog to drop what they are doing and run to your rescue.

Sally, we are not fucking amateurs and we are not here for shits and giggles. We are serious.

Go and complain somewhere else.

No, that's not okay

11.12.2011 14:41

"In any movement you are expected to stand on your own two feet and you are expected to fight your own corner. You can't simply get arrested and then expect everybody and their dog to drop what they are doing and run to your rescue."

Any movement which aims to be sustainable needs to support its prisoners and arrestees. Arrest/legal support structure is an important part of any movement and something that does need to be taken seriously if you don't want to end up losing lots of people.

been involved in protest since 1999, previous poster is right. you stand on your own two feet.

I'm sure you'll feel the same way when you get nicked and no one has your back either. Prisoner support is an important consideration for any movement that takes itself seriously.

"we are not fucking amateurs and we are not here for shits and giggles. We are serious." could've fooled me...

Stick together

11.12.2011 17:59

Obviously these situations can be tough, but you're doing these attackers' work for them if you don't stick together

And don't worry about the trolls trying to disillusion you about media coverage - these wankers post all over Indymedia trying to discourage EVERYONE

Jeremy Clarkson and OLSX

11.12.2011 18:10

Jeremy Clarkson incited the murder of strikers, but there aren't any actual strikers available to victimise when cowards want to attack in the dead of night, so OLSX are the next best thing so far as these people are concerned. We're going to see alot more of this kind of incitement and therefore violence if Jeremy Clarkson is allowed to get away with this, so please keep up the pressure to get him sacked -

 https://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/specific-programme-epg
 http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/form.html
 https://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/forms/#anchor

And as for troll hate comments - if taxpayers hadn't lost billions to corrupt bankers already, then OLSX wouldn't be needed in the first place

Shields and sticks

11.12.2011 19:42

If you really want to protect the camp then why don't you have a self-defence class and possibly teach some ancient warrior skills using shields, poles or sticks, maybe stones?

STOP ARGUING START FIGHTING FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN!

11.12.2011 20:29

if u are being attacked you train in self defence TOMOROW!

as u could then fuck up the attackers and wont have to rely on police which really is lame as all revolutionarys should be able to defend themselves and fight back
how else are u gonna change any thing ... a seed swap....i dont think sooooo

Bright lights and video cameras

11.12.2011 22:20

I'm not saying that anyone shouldn't learn self-defence, but the last thing OLSX needs is people having punch-ups around the tents, I'm pretty confident anyone who's trying to encourage this is a right-wing troll, and I'm also confident you'll find these pissed-up attackers will be alot less brave if they approach the tents and find lookouts with bright torches and video cameras staring them right in the face

V

The Tranquiity Team already exists

11.12.2011 22:47

As the trolls would know if they were the kind of people who got away from their screens for long enough to get to the Occupy camps.

So, if anyone is inclined to go and help at night, thats who you need to ask for.

Shields and sticks - only a cop or journo would seriously suggest this.....

Boris

if you do

12.12.2011 14:16

just bear in mind the comments above, and remember that if you do get nicked at any point for any reason you are unlikely to get any support or solidarity from occupy folk. you will be expected to go it alone. be under no illusions about that.

sally

self defence

12.12.2011 14:39

Bright lights and video cameras will only deter the most casual of 'attacks', most will tend to grab your camera - that's the logical thing to do. Self defence is a must. There's a worrying trend that people seem increasing convinced that their expensive camera phone has some kind of magical forcefield to protect them from violence and injustice. YOUR iPHONE AND LIBERAL OUTRAGE WILL NOT KEEP YOU SAFE!

Whatever you say, Sally the pinstriped male conservative clown.

Now do fuck off and be a pivileged, fat conservative cunt on some other forum, there's a good chap.

David Cameron , EU fuckwit.

WTF

12.12.2011 17:53

Are you expecting the police to defend you against night attacks? That's probably why they reduced numbers... they just hope you get fucked, NEVER, EVER TRUST THE POLICE OR RELY ON THEM that's fucking stupid. SELF DEFENCE IS A MUST.
