Why I and many others choose to protest against the London 2012 Olympics!

Anonymous Anti-Capitalist | 19.12.2011 13:27 | Palestine | Policing

A short article upon which I explain (angrily) the reasons behind the opposition to the Olympic Games, not an attack on the participants but an attack on the corporations making billions out of it and getting away with evil crimes in the process!

The Olympics is not something people would see as a reason to protest, but once the truth behind the Olympic Games is told, people start to open their eyes and see the bigger picture.

Personally I believe the games themselves are excellent as I am a very sporty person and love to see all the different nations competing in a football match or on the track, however, as an Anarchist and Anti-Capitalist, I’m choosing to boycott the London 2012 games as I feel that now the Olympics has become a haven for rich, corporate, tax avoiding scum to breed and only make many more millions. As proposed, the extremely murderous and tax avoiding scum of McDonalds are going to ‘break their record’ of building the biggest ‘restaurant’ EVER!! (if that’s what you can call it)! Absolute disgrace seeing as people in 3rd world countries continue to starve to death whilst the company is trying to break a bloody record that really doesn’t need to be broken, it’s just a chance to make even more money than they already have! Also the constant increase in restaurants means more and more animals are to be enslaved and tortured all in the name of a quick buck, the grain fed to animals that are to be led to slaughter is more than enough to feed the starving people of 3rd world countries, but do the corporations care? Nah, they’re happy as long as they get paid...no surprise there!

The Olympics in London is going to cost the British economy around £560m in just security costs alone! Most of which will be payed for by the British tax payer, unwillingly but this happens all the time, the tax payer having to invest in acts which not everyone wants to, such as supporting acts of war, or as mentioned, sponsoring the corporations which shit all over us! No doubt, just like when the royal wedding was happening, our rights to protest will soon be stripped of us and it’ll now become illegal to utter a single word of opposition to the games, as seen in Soho Sq. earlier in the year. It seems that whenever Cameron becomes scared to be humiliated, he turns into a Nazi and demands a ‘all who oppose shall suffer’ attitude and that leads to a habit, and habit leads to addiction and in a political manor, addiction can be a police state!

I would also like to use this article as step to say about how Palestine is continued to be pushed to the side and forgotten about for yet another year, “not a recognized country”, yeah but they’re getting bombed and murdered for trying to stand up for what is rightfully theirs and not letting the Israeli military, led by a murderous few take even more land illegally!

One billion pound security bill for olympics exposes grave terror threat

19.12.2011 13:53

The one billion pound security bill for the three week olympic exposes the grave terrorism threat to Britain. Why else would they be putting thousands of troops on standby and hiring over twenty thousand security guards and having fighter jets and helicopter gunships patrolling the skies during the olympics. It just shows how much at risk this country is now from terrorism due to Britain taking part in wars of aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"It just shows how much at risk this country is now from terrorism due to Britain taking part in wars of aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan."

There was similar security arrangements during the Beijing and Athens games and both of those countries actively opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. France the most vocal and high profile opponent of the Iraq war had extensive security proposals in its bid for the 2012 games including 16,000 troops from its army in Paris and Navy vessels in the Seine.

Is the need to go so far that there are gonna be predator drones flying over our capital and the police have been given the right to attack protesters for no justified reason! Here, check this out:  http://truth-reason-liberty.blogspot.com/2011/12/london-2012-and-police-state.html

This is not because of the wars we participate in, it's out of fear of humiliation, they don't need that much security because they didn't call in troops and fucking drones for the royal wedding did they!? In my eyes a much better target for terrorism than the Olympics.....

The Olympics sucks,

20.12.2011 16:58

But it's much much bigger then McDonald's biggest puke joint.

I live in the East end, If I look through the window, I can just about see the Olympics site. These are the parts of town which you would not see in a London postcard.
We live in the gutters or London. In between several major traffic interchanges, if you want to know bleak, you just have to come over. This is the poorest borough in London. The grayest and least natural surroundings in possibly the world.

Surprisingly perhaps, but around here feels safe, I mean really safe.
I have never seen a road closed here by the police, there is no gang violence.
walking around at 3 in the morning in back streets, I don't feel I have to watch my back. unlike hackney, where I used to live where there would be a stabbing outside my doorstep every weekend.
here, in-between busy roads on estate lawns and in cement parks, kids play games looking a lot like the games I used to play, and which kids don't play any more.
Chasing each other on scooters, playing hide and seek and being kids. there are no play-station orientated outdoor games, the kids don't violently shout orders at one another, no GTA re-enactments etc.

If you want to talk about community, real community not the fictitious one us anarchists keep on talking about, just just have to come to the marketplace.
If you go during the school hours, you will see mothers going shopping together, and old ladies chatting gossip in large groups. If you go in the afternoon you will see school kids helping their parents with the market stools. as others are coming back from school.
people know one another at least enough to nod to familiar faces in the streets.

and while the skyline is fast changing, this is the only part of London in which I see the spirit of the "old London" I've only heard about in stories. The market place hides not one but two olde sytle pie-and-mash shops, one right next to one of the cheapest curry takeaway stands I've seen.
It's kinda funny that this is the part the EDL describe as a no-white-zone. It's true, there are a lot of Asian people around, and after prayers you can see groups of people wearing Islamic religious paraphernalia, coming out of a mosque located in between a Kebbab place and a Church. This all looks like the rest of the deprecated shop-fronts. I bet these parts will have the least right wing base, not because there are no "White English People", but because they all live with Asian people, they all have friends and neighbours which they do not want to get hurt. Here the community is not really separated along religious or ethnic lines so much as it's separated along the posh invaders and vs working class people lines.

Streets which suffer from neglect, but whose roads are constantly repaved. this are is not designed for people. yet,in here the human spirit triumph. The people here learned to co-exist, and even begun loving it.
Old white folks going in and out of the Pie-and-mash, the betting shop, the pub etc. I think for them this is what they know, the city that's gone. this is a place where they can live in the only way they know how. At the very least this is the closest it gets in a city which changed so much in the past 50 or so years, an extremely fast paced glossy city, a spit distance from a global financial centre,is the last reminiscent of a time long gone.

The gentrification here has happened already, the new "luxury flats" have been built. all that's missing now is to kick the old population out and replace it with soulless trendy young city couples. Expensive hotels on the Thames, and business parks, etc. only hide from view some of the places actual people live in. Grey and brown monster estates, designed to be "cities within cities", are used as a buffer between gloss and the real world.
"Poplar is changing fast - A proud past, a bright future", This is one of the slogans used to sell this development. No one is really paying attention though.

My speculation is that this redevelopment overdrive had some unintended consequences. the newly built flats, in a drive to build as much as possible, have devalued. now posh looking houses are housing lower income resident. while the architecture of these new builds is very cold corporate style, the spirit of the east end is re-establishing it's old self here.

In a commemoration to one Adolph Hitler, the Olympic torch relay is set to pass right here, in what will surely be the least pleasant time of all of our lives. The streets here are going to be for a couple of weeks, packed with tourists.
in a place home to many families, the night will be owned by drunks, by prostitution, and drug dealers. Historically the Olympics is a time of great debauchery. most sexual assaults happen during large sporting events. The few pubs around here won't be home to the local group of pub dwellers. they will be buzzing with exited and agitated sports fans from around the world.

I understand exactly why they chose to do it here. It's in the hope to expand the financial centre, in the hope that city workers, live close to work, push out the undesirables.

I believe, that if the occupy people setup a few small camps here, hidden from tourists and bankers, but in plain view of the locals. And providing they do it considerately, they will win massive popular support. More than that, it's a fertile ground for establishing autonomy. people already feel rejected by the state, and to a large part have already developed the community infrastructure to facilitate independence. The Bangladeshi people have a very admirable ability to set-up food gardens in every crack and niche.
a small balcony is enough to have a rich food garden. The buildings around here already house all the people with all the skills to provide for one another, the teachers and doctors live in the same block as the students and patients. They already at know one another at least a little.
In here community means you have people to complain about stuff to. but many here don't see this. these people are the closest to freedom, They already improvise so much that they barely need to infrastructure of the state.
A few swap shops, a few food exchange places, a few free schools, skill shares, homework help and the like will go a very long way here. It seems to only lack the support infrastructure which we anarchists know how to set up, and when done properly allow the community to take over.

I'm not talking about masking up and waving flags here, I am talking about community centres which actually provide for the people and by the people. I am talking about the idea of dreaming up how life can be, and then conjuring up plans for things we can do to make it a little more like that world.

If you represent the 99%, why do you go to the backyard of the 1% ? If you want to build a sustainable community you need to move out of the stronghold of the individualists. Here is the weak point, the pressure spot of the empire.

A Supposed Banksy graffiti stating: "Sorry, the lifestyle you have ordered is currently out of stock" was painted on a burned building recently.
He is wrong though, this is exactly the lifestyle I ordered. and so did many people. under the surface, invisible to Banksy the lifestyle we have all been dreaming about is sprouting. You just need to look behind the billboards, only visible to the trained eye, you will see people, real people with real problems. no pretence, people here are being themselves truly. not hiding in flash cars, not wearing expensive fashionable sportswear. just being doing with what they have, and doing very good with very very little. A lot of very good people live in these parts.

And all this, is just one more small part which could be lost forever because of the Olympics. To me, this is a much greater sacrifice then the security bill and McDonald's latest ego booster.
