Some sanity on day of parasite worship

anon@indymedia.org (Sex Pistol) | 03.06.2012 12:55 | London

With 350 people gathered by 12 O'clock more are expected to swell the ranks of the republican protest. Private security stopping protesters from accessing #jubileeprotest site and the organisers are suggesting people assemble on Tooley St, opposite the Shipwrights Arms. Some are not been able to get their banners out, while others are being prevented from joining the main crowd of republicans.

The rain is on our side as Republicans from across Britain unite for the biggest anti-monarchy protest in modern times. A ray of sanity are meeting at City Hall, as the mass of people wander like zombies towards the river thames in the drizzle, not sure what there is to see or why exactly they are waving those flags. It has been hard to remember a more empty day of national hysteria and good to see at least some are prepared to show their contempt.. Republicans have a powerful and positive message about democratic values and a more imaginative and inspiring form of politics.

haha sounds like a hollow victory to me....
You seem to deliberately missed the main point that there are a staggering amount of people supportin the queen across the country. Makes your group look like a bunch girl scouts on a picnic. Here in the rural countryside, I cannot even find one republican.

I'm guessing it is cool to be different/outcast/alternative/etc.... but put a sock in it.

Like this...

"A ray of sanity are meeting at City Hall, as the mass of people wander like zombies"

As a Repulican such sneering remarks make my skin crawl. It demonstrates how some within the movement think they are better than everyone else because of their views on the Monarchy.

If we need to win the arguments for Republicaism we need to win people over not insult them.

What's not to love?

03.06.2012 16:24

Nationalism is our form of incest, is our idolatry, is our insanity. "Patriotism" is its cult. It should hardly be necessary to say, that by "patriotism" I mean that attitude which puts the own nation above humanity, above the principles of truth and justice; not the loving interest in one's own nation, which is the concern with the nation's spiritual as much as with its material welfare — never with its power over other nations. Just as love for one individual which excludes the love for others is not love, love for one's country which is not part of one's love for humanity is not love, but idolatrous worship.

Another 40 people were treated by medics on the banks of the Thames after the parade was beset by heavy downpours

By the time boats reached Tower Bridge, many of their occupants were shivering. A London Ambulance Service spokesman said.

There were reports of people coming in, being very cold and very wet.

We treated 46 people and six of them were taken to hospital. They were all very cold.

Their conditions are not said to be serious. Temperatures remained around 12C during the parade which was hit by drizzle from 3.30pm."

Elitism

03.06.2012 23:14

The Monarchy is elitist and many of those who fight to uphold it are elitist. The last thing those of us who are trying to get rid of it should be doing is acting in an elitist manner.

One of the things that bothers me about the current Republican movement is that it appears very white and middle class. More needs to be done to reach out to working class people and those from ethnic minorities. Pro Monarchy sentiment seems to be very strong amongst the poor, maybe because they see it as a form of escapism. So insulting them as "zombies" isn't going to win them over.

Militarism.

03.06.2012 23:39

I can't imagine the UK having a President!

Can you imagine President Cameron or God forbid, President Blair!!!

But I don't have anytime for this militarism in the Royal family either. Not that long ago, Prince Harry, complete ignoramus he is, was sitting in a shed in Afghanistan blatting off a machine gun. I then recall him being involved in drone strikes!

If you take the 1.2 million that are reported to have turned out in London today and put that in context with the 1 Million that turned out to oppose the war in Iraq, you can see that today's event was a washout in more than one sense.

The war in Iraq was overwhelmingly wrong, and the royals are an institutional part of that wrong. No amount of stage managed pomp will now undo that damage. To see the royal family decked out like a military mafia is very unpleasant in this day and age.

Attitudes in the UK have changed toward the military and that must be understood across the board.

The royals really do look outdated now.

Options are our own

04.06.2012 09:02

I think the last two comments are suggesting that the common, everyday person who supports that monarchy is wrong and that they need their way of thinking changed....

People are adults and have their own opinions. Your opinions are no better or important than theirs. If you don't like that fact that most people yesterday supported the Monarchy then boo-hoo.

Wedock. The military is a vital element of this country's defence. It always has been. From defending the country against Hitler's army, to defending the residents on the Falkland's Islands, or defending us from terrorism, the military has played a vital role. The day we get rid of our military is the day we are screwed and go down the tiolet like so many other countries have. No thanks

Let me tell you something about the military sonny.

The vast majority of those serving do so because they have no qualification to do anything else. The rest are out on an adventure because they've been brought of on the spartan-like adoge model, killing foreigners appeals to their sense of nationalist pride.

Without the military, those people are out of a job and on the streets..

To a man, to a woman, they have nothing but contempt for the people of the UK. I know this, because I have listened to them.

But the feral British military is not what's being discussed here.

The Royal families obsessive representation of themselves in military uniform at official events is the problem. Prince Harry shooting off rounds in Afghanistan is the problem, Jingoist displays of mindless kow-towing to the military is the problem.

The Queen is head of state, and that state is mightily fed up with its self-important and visibly tainted military.

1 fashion, I must wear what that thin woman is wearing so men will like me
Wrong. You can wear what you want. Interestingly, more people are going for the 'fat-look' every single day. And their are plenty of marketing campaigns targetting it. So you're argument is flawed.

2 education, if I get this piece of paper I will get a better job and be able to buy things that will make people like me
People get a good education because it is useful to them. Some people don't want to settle with being poor, so decide to get a good level of skills and do something about it. Others get the skills because they want to do a particular job that is of interest to them, and need those skills to do it. Eg. someone who likes working with animals and wants to become a zoologist needs to get an education to do so. Fat lot of use a zoologist would be if they didn't know what they were doing.

3 nationalism, I am part of a large number of people who agree with me so I must be right. Let's all go buy the same things to show our individuality.
Or, you can be an outcast and be smug about how superior you are to the sheep.

4 democracy, I have voted for the person that the media told me to so I must have 'elected' them.
Lies......... You can vote for who you want to. You go in the ballet room and put a X across the name you want. Or none at all. Nobody is forcing you to do anything - this isn't some banana republic. You are a liar.

5 dissent, I can wave a banner and go on a march so I must be in a 'free' country. The power elite are listening to me because I am shouting.
You are of course free to leave at anytime if you are that unhappy to be here.

End of a reign.

04.06.2012 13:18

Some exceptional crap being posted today by the regimes loyalists.

The Jubilee is theatre. Theatre is a requirement of entertaining the masses in order to keep control over the agenda of dependence. This is how you do it, this is how we want you to live. These are the values we want you to have. If you play the game, according to our rules, we will give you access to the range of dependencies we have on offer.

The royals call themselves 'the firm' for a reason. Its a business. They control the agenda and the money, you control your loyalty to it.

There's no choice here, Just the illusion of choice. All you have to do, is accept that you are a subject of the business. That's how it works.

The people posting a defence of this here, are people who have already made a choice to be dependent. Obviously, meeting others who refuse or decline to go along with it is irritating for them. It highlights their own dependency and makes them uncomfortable.

As another poster above brilliantly points out, they have a strategy when faced with what makes them uncomfortable.

Its the Zionists, its the trolls, its conspiracy theory, its state agents, You're all mad/jealous/stupid. We represent the people in their entirety. Indymedia is doomed.

Don't take is personally...its just business. We are not in this to waste our time. We are here for a reason, and a very good reason.

take a walk welock

04.06.2012 13:37

Wedlock,
Thats all great. You are probably right about the Monarchy having a lot of offer the people (if they abide to the games rules). I suppose that is why people prefer the monarchy - because they have a lot to offer. If you had all the answers, people would side with you instead.

Your thought process seems to revolve around the idea that other people that havn't different views to yours are not in control of their own thought processes. Ie. if their view is different, then they are clearly brain-washed / insane / or incapable of thinking.

You almost seem like you want to take the decision out of the people's hands because they are incapable of making decisions, and make it for them. Accept that people have and are making their choices. Maybe in 100 years things will change, but they will change for valid reasons, not simply because you want them to. All this nonsense about how people are incapable of thinking and how you could think for them and they need showing the way whether they like it or not, just makes you sound like a fascist.

I am not, and have not, told you how to think.

Are you trying to call me a fascist because you think I'm a fascist, or because I missed that out of my list of things loyalists like to do when confronted with things they find uncomfortable?

And:

"Blah blah blah blah NO LEADERS! NO MASTERS! NO GODS!"

For the fool who does not want leaders or master or Gods let me say this.

A Leader represents the direction you yearn to take. That is sent by God. That which demands you follow you must follow. If it is an imposter, your journey is none the less an important one. You will learn, and so will they. A leader is not your Master.

A Master is that which you will become through your dedication and perseverence. Live long, and you will collect all the knowledge there is to collect. Those who make you their Master, and who are as capable as you, will not become your servant. A Master is not your leader.

A God is a kingdom. Without a God, there are no leaders, there are no Masters, there are no kingdoms. Just a world of birds, insects and fish.

God is not your leader, is not your master, is not YOUR God.

If you say "NO LEADERS! NO MASTERS! NO GODS!", then you say you want no human on earth. Those you are prepared to tolerate, you want to have nothing but everlasting hunger.

You are Evil incarnate, but you are not who you say you are.

Say it again so we can be sure.
