Valiant attempt to pretend the Jubilee celebrations were not well supported. Perhaps it would be better for you to wonder why Anarchist politics are so poorly supported right now ?

Every country has centrifugal forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Crown holds the British tribes together. The Constitution binds the USA. Those of us who have lived in countries tearing themselves apart and have seen the dead bodies, cherish the "glue" that provides stability however odd or old fashioned it looks. L'union fait la force!

"Perhaps it would be better for you to wonder why Anarchist politics are so poorly supported right now ?"

Go on admit it.

You just want someone to say only a few people turned out among the 60 million that could have, so no support for the Jubilee.

So by logic, only a million turned out to oppose the war and, therefore, that didn't mean what it meant..

Close, but no cigar!

Get back to your hole soldier.

The Jubilee is a celebration of the Monarchs reign, attended by Monarchist's.

Nothing more.

The King.

Not too sure about the tribes bit but the sentiment is sound.

"The Constitution binds the USA."

Does it, now that's interesting...isn't it?

"Those of us who have lived in countries tearing themselves apart and have seen the dead bodies, cherish the "glue" that provides stability however odd or old fashioned it looks."

Very tidy that. Couldn't agree more. I'd go further in saying that it illustrates continuity and a link to the past, especially important as an antidote to modern Globalisation and its odious habit of revisionism.

"L'union fait la force!"

Said in a place of disunity. Quo Vardis?

Wow... I thought Queen's point was pretty straight forward to understand. Not too many words which detailed a singular concept. But, somehow, you have seemed to have had a complete cluster-fuck in that head of yours when trying to think of a response that has ended up on such a tangent that it appears to have gone up your ass. Time to press the reboot button.

Have you tried switching it off and on again?

Job done.

News update.

05.06.2012 17:33

It pissed down AGAIN!

Oh well, its all over now anyway. We can all get back to summer tomorrow.

By the way, that concert last night was really bad. The Queen is 86 years old for Gods sake, they made her sit through that awful display of Capitalist squawking for three hours.

I bet all the people that arranged that have dumped their elderly parents in old peoples home's to rot away at the hands of pensioner beating Nigerians in the UK on student visa's.

What a load of bollocks! There's loads of countries that are tearing themselves apart, and/or killing each other, that have a monarch or a constitution or a president. In fact, it's often nationalist forces that politicians stir up that result in many deaths.

"There's loads of countries that are tearing themselves apart, and/or killing each other, that have a monarch or a constitution or a president. In fact, it's often nationalist forces that politicians stir up that result in many deaths."

I think what that commentator was saying is that in this country the Monarchy provide a glue that keeps this country together. Obviously not enough to prevent the political parties from going off on a tangent and joining in Amerikana's deranged Muslim killing spree though. But that's down to the voters and their idiotic nationalist political fantasies which we on IMC are exposed to on a daily basis.

You might not like the Monarch or even the Monarchy, but its a very different thing to the real menace...which is unfortunately the British people themselves and their crazed delusions. Without the Monarch, we of course would have torn each others throats out by now.

I think thats what the above poster is driving at.

For us at IMC the question is of course, is the Monarch a representation or manifestation of the heirarchy? Is it an ordered thing with power to persuade or an ordered thing with the ability to absolutely enforce its will on pain of sanction. Are those who follow the Monarch ordered to do so, or is it a voluntary arrangement and therefore a matter of consensus?

As an arguing point I shall open up this can of worms with this statement:

The British Monarchy is a prime example of the effectiveness of autonomous collectivity which mirrors our own networked power structures. It is more radical than we are due to its effectiveness in organising itself and its ability to maintain order throughout its sphere of influence. The real heirarchy, is in Parliament, business & industry. The real heirarchy is in the political parties of Labour, Conservative and the Liberal Democrats. The major corporations and the hopelessly incompetent Capitalist institutions of the economic order.

The Monarch is not our enemy, our enemy is the political representational fiction of Parliament with its Capitalist delusions.

The Westerner.

demand for the state

06.06.2012 20:35

".....the State continues to exist, not solely by violent conquest or deception, but because there is a demand for its services from the sheep habituated to governance......."

Avoiding the negative language, I would agree with this statement. There is a "demand for its services". Or, think of it another way, if people didn't demand the services that the state provides, then it wouldn't exist.

As an example of services that are demanded of the state:
People demand various forms of benefits/assistance etc. These can take the form of income support, legal aid, whatever. People DEMAND these, if they didn't exist, then people would effectively riot.

So,.... how to pay for these things? Tax.
Now, who in their right mind is going to pay tax voluntarily?
This is where the state comes in. We like to believe we are a charitable lot - but the state has to use the threat of incarceration to get people to pay taxes. No threat = people would pay zero tax.

Without the state, the people on benefits would be forced to collect taxes (ie. rob), themselves. So..... there is a demand for the state afterall.

its time to wake up people. if only for yourselves, at least.

Commercial versus Private Bunting?

06.06.2012 21:47

Driving around my town it seems that about 1 in 100 private houses/flats have bunting up, compared to nearly every pub/shop/public library/school- so there is a big discrepancy between the commercial/state enthusiasm and the private citizen's enthusiasm- state broadcaster the BBC is part of the former.

Pub's incentive's to put bunting and other things up is solely to encourage customers to come in. Same with shops. You may notice they put a lot more football deco up, xmas deco up etc.
Library's are public services so effectively owned by the state.
School's do theme based days depending on whats on the calender.

Private house & flats are not trying to attract visitors and are not owned by the state.

My best guess for this bunting discrepancy is that private houses and flats are different to pubs/shops/libraries/schools.

A crowd is a crowd!

07.06.2012 10:14

In case you hadn't noticed people are a bit strapped for cash at the moment. Where I live, it was the same, just a few Union flags out fluttering in the wind.

By the same token, there are far fewer fireworks on Guy Fawkes night or New Years Eve.

What cannot be denied, is that whopping great lump of a crowd in the Mall on the last day. I've only ever seen that sort of thing at protests.

We either work with that or we do what the last Government very stupidly did...and we pointlessly bash our brains out against it!
