Shame to see so few there, from the earlier reports I had assumed this was a much bigger action but the photos show how little number of people made it.

Why were the numbers so low when this was in the middle of the summer period ?

David Baily

Why ?

17.07.2012 10:55

Agree that the numbers were disappointing however they have been in decline for anti EDO actions for some time (there are various reasons for this) so it was not a surprise. What is important is that the people who did attend managed to blockade the police fence and achieved the aim of preventing EDO trading for the day.

That is a very interesting interpretation of events - perhaps I could offer some realism here.

Smash EDO spent weeks telling everyone they would be carrying out a "citizens inspection of the factory" - they would be storming the building and inspecting what was going on inside.

Smash EDO knew all about this so they gave everyone the day off and the place was empty.

The police built a fence ensuring the protesters got nowhere near the building

Protesters got to the fence, tried to get past it, over it, around it and finally tried to break it. They failed at all attempts and in desperation they chained themselves to it and decided this was what they were going to be doing all along.

They got on the internet and claimed a success.

"pouring rain"

Really ? Words fail me.

Pouring Rain ????

17.07.2012 14:40

I remember my parents marching to Aldermaston regardless of the weather, it was that sort of commitment that resulted in the massive reduction of nuclear weapons in the UK and now we have an arms company in our community where less than 30 people can be bothered to attend an action because it was raining.

less than 30 ...

It was close to a hundred

Looks like at least 50 in the photos. I haven't watched the video.

Hamas.

17.07.2012 16:56

I see HAMAS executed 3 Palestinians this week. How can this be happening when they are not even in government. Are they working for the Israelis and should we not oppose them? I am really confused and upset

So David, seeing as you are unemployed, and at home a lot, perhaps you would like to show us all evidence of what you did to help build for this action? I mean surely you phoned or sent an email to the organisers offering your help? Did you get onto the comments pages of local brighton newspapers, or other forums speading the word? Did put out a call for a solidarity protest locally? Nope, you just sniped from the sidelines.
That was the lamest excuse for not getting involved I have heard.
