SMASH HLS! AstraZeneca Knock Out week of action

Times are hard for the puppy killers at Huntingdon Life Sciences as job losses at both their UK sites leave about 100 abusers without jobs (www.shac.net/news/2012/july/31.html). Things aren't much better for their customers either, with leaderless AstraZeneca's profits dropping by over a third (www.shac.net/news/2012/july/27.html). Maybe they'd have better luck if they didn't spend their time torturing animals.

These financial problems have given us the perfect opportunity to get active in an August attack and knock out HLS' top customer AstraZeneca! The animals imprisoned inside HLS need us to fight for them - don't let AZ get away with murder at the world's most exposed animal testing lab.



AstraZeneca are a major current customer and vocal supporter of HLS' cruel methods of animal torture and scientific fraud. Over the past few years they've suffered huge layoffs and recently experienced even more financial and legal problems. So it's the perfect time to pile on the pressure and get them to ditch HLS!

In response to Animal Defenders International's expose from 2008 AstraZeneca had the audacity to state that no suffering occurs at HLS - what a bunch of liars! During the time of the expose, AZ were funding experiments on primates at Huntingdon. Not only did the breeding farm in Vietnam who supplied the poor animals not meet basic UK animal welfare standards, but the conditions of the animals when housed inside the lab were horrific; some monkeys were missing limbs, had skin problems or other infections. Once Tom Harris called it a day back in September last year the last of the hard core of SHAC was gone and SHAC was finished in real terms. These days it is just a website and a regular request for money to keep four people off the streets (full time activists in SHAC language) and pay the mortgage on the French house.

Tom felt very betrayed after his conviction upon discovering where much of the money has gone and he had been telling friends for some time that he had "wasted so much of my life with SHAC and Animal Rights". Harris has taken the advice of the visiting prison priest and is concentrating on working toward a degree so he can rebuild his life after prison and keep away from SHAC.

When the story of the demise of UK AR is written there will be a lot of fingers pointed at SHAC and the enormous damage they did.

What you call trolling is what I call laying out the reasons why SHAC took money under false pretences, knew the campaign against HLS had failed seven years ago but still kept asking for "one more push" to ensure the money kept rolling in and worst of all took money that people thought was going to be used for animal welfare to fund the lifestyles of those who sat at the top of the tree.

SHAC betrayed thousands of people and it deserves nothing but contempt from us all. When Greg gets out he will I'm sure quickly find his way to France with the others and the details of Jersey bank accounts. I just hope it's all gone by the time he gets there.

Don't forget how much money was being generated by SHAC in the early days. A stall in a good sized town could generate $10,000 on a Saturday and a lot of people discovered they could become 'full time activists'. Sarah Whitehead for example lived with her partner for three years on SHAC money while having no other source of income. Neither Jason Mullan or Nicola ­Tapping worked after 2007 and lived on money coming from the bank account Greg established in Luxembourg.
