Bio-metrics for visitors in UK Detention Centre

Sarah Smith | 13.08.2012 16:02 | Bio-technology | Birmingham

On a recent visit to see an Iraqi woman detained in Yarls wood IRC - was advised that my fingerprints and photograph needed to be taken before i could see her. This was apparently to protect the safety of people in the centre - see flyer.

I was surprised and unwilling to give my information, why do people need to be data-ised in this way? It is important to support people facing deportation. It is worrying the government are keeping databases of information on those who visit or support detained refugees.

TrapWire technology

13.08.2012 21:31

Please see the info I posted at that link for why the information is gathered. I have no idea why the article got hidden, unless it's because it attracted some barmy trolls going on about the Illuminati in the comments.

As the info on TrapWire (and the DDoS attack on wikileaks for initially revealing it) is all over the mainstream news now it's kind of irrelevant that it got censored on Indymedia.

For any schnews people: no offence was intended by posting your mischievous page on the best way to deal with CCTV cameras as a 'homepage' link.

backup notification

You can ask to get your details deleted by one organisation. Be mindful that the data can be "backed up" , saved, or downloaded by partner organisations at any time. "Any time" including "upon new entry".

'Black'lists galore.

Thanks, that was interesting to read, no hard feelings here.

There are still angry discussions going on about whether the Slate and also recent New York Times pieces downplaying TrapWire are state-sponsored whitewashes - see  http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/14/us/trapwire-antiterrorist-software-leaks-set-off-web-furor.html?_r=1 then  http://occupysavvy.com/2012/08/14/deconstructing-the-new-york-times-trapwire-whitewash-please-reblog/

For evidence suggesting TrapWire's extensive use in the UK which might explain why that software is used at Yarls Wood, please see  http://dazzlepod.com/gifiles/3455249/ for one of the most infamously obnoxious and money-grubbing emails released a few days ago.

"Cash should begin to flow to Abraxas within 10 days. As many of you old-timers know, we
arranged to get a cut. I think the first dump is $250,000 to Abraxas,
with an annual renewal of $150,000 per year for the TrapWire license.
The point man for the project worked directly for me at DPS. Abraxas
has done work already pro-bono as good will. TrapWire may be the most
successful invention on the GWOT since 9-11. I knew these hacks when
they were GS-12's at the CIA. God Bless America. Now they have EVERY
major HVT in CONUS, the UK, Canada, Vegas, Los Angeles, NYC as clients."

Wikileaks is still down under unprecedented and of course entirely coincidental DDOS attack since the release of the emails. Mirrors of the emails do exist eg at dazzlepod.

PS - regarding 'Ken' and the other insta-spammers

14.08.2012 19:31

"3 minutes is a very short space of time to find and repost a response but
maybe a troll was sitting there wirh it ready looking to start off a spate
of dodgy CT posts to discredit the site, and just added it to that when it
appeared......"

 http://darkernet.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/trapwire-the-barclays-connection-uk-aussie-army-training-questions-asked-of-uk-pm-aussie-senate/ - note this paragraph:

"TrapWire constantly monitors social media. In a strange twist of fate, the company that developed TrapWire also works on something called ‘sock-puppet’ programs. These are projects designed to create thousands of fake personas on social media. We will turn this idea and software against them, creating thousands of phony accounts and use them to produce a deluge of false triggers for the TrapWire program – essentially drowning it in ‘white noise."
- source is Anonymous. And the same impulse was my reason for foolishly saying ricin.

Sorry if I am being a nuisance with this geeky shit but I think activists who are not hacktivists should be aware of this stuff.

Photos too

15.08.2012 07:57

I know Brook House are very fussy about taking individual photos of any visitors too. It's probably all part of eroding the support, friendship and information-sharing that helps detainees fight for an appeal.

anon (yeah, right!)
