Youth for Human Rights Florida certainly considers themselves to be one of those stakeholders and that mission is a perfect complement to their own purpose to teach the area’s youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to inspire them to become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace.
THE RIGHT TO FOOD AND SHELTER FOR ALL
On February 12th Youth for Human Rights Florida lent a helping hand to Feeding America Tampa Bay by sending a team of volunteers to help them organize donated food goods to be given to the needy and help them fulfill their mission of “Ending Hunger, Nourishing Hope.” Feeding America Tampa Bay believes that to end hunger at the community level, a broad range of community stakeholders must unite behind a common vision and strategy.
Youth for Human Rights Florida certainly considers themselves to be one of those stakeholders and that mission is a perfect complement to their own purpose to teach the area’s youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to inspire them to become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace.
As spokesperson Paola Martinez said, "We are carrying forward the goals of humanitarians such as Mahatma Gandhi, Eleanore Roosevelt and L. Ron Hubbard who wrote that 'Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream.' Our wish is to see human rights made real for everyone - and the right to having food is very basic."
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Human Right #25 states that “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”

Youth for Human Rights teaches youth about human rights both in and out of the classroom so they become advocates for tolerance and peace. Designed to present the subject of human rights in multimedia formats suitable for all ages, the materials for this program include "The Story of Human Rights," a documentary video that illustrates the history of human rights through the ages; booklets and public service announcements that educate youth and adults on the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and teaching aids that include a study guide, activities manual and educator's classroom kit.
