All contemporary educational reforms aim to incorporate university education into the state capitalist system, making students either servants of the state or free market cogs. Free University tries to develop a free personality with a critical thinking that seeks education and not a diploma or a promised career in state or business sector. It is the laboratory of the future experiments, grounded with tolerance for individuals of diverse nationalities, faiths, genders etc.
All faculties of Free University maintain full autonomy within a network. Coordination groups of each faculty are responsible for organizing lectures. „An attempt to establish LUNI in London will require a particular organizing skills and mutual aid“, Kasparas Pocius says. According to the organizers, this „faculty“ will aim for several goals. Firstly, we will try to help ourselves and others to leave the ghettoes of identities, to disavow the annoying nationalist and racist stereotypes, to find friends among all the inhabitants of the metropolis. According to Kasparas Pocius, the contemporary metropolis is not only a space of struggle for survival, it is a place of common experience, knowledge and intellect which allow to resist the exploitation and oppression.
The organizers hope that LUNI London will allow its community to get involved into the metropolitan counterculture and alternative political movements. This initiative can become a good model of self-education for all the people of London.
