Leaders promise to make all of Dr. King’s dream a reality for children in east

Summary: Tampa Leaders meet to forward Dr. King’s Dream in Ybor City under the banner of United for Human Rights
TAMPA, FL: This past week, the Church of Scientology of Tampa hosted a Human Rights event with East Tampa community leaders to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s’ “I Have a Dream” speech.
Representing the 19,000 residents of East Tampa, community activist Evangeline Best, Eastern Heights Neighborhood President Mr. Samuel Mobley and his wife Denise, Tampa Bay Academy of Hope Executive Director Titania Lamb and Programs Executive Terrance Hyman, Coach Foundation Executive Director Reverend Willie Dixon, Heritage Foundation Executive William Sanders, Feed Our Children President Reverend Thurman Wortham and his wife Ardis joined together to plant seeds for Ybor City’s future in alignment with “The Dream”.
“It is an honor to gather together in remembrance of that historic day and what it represents with this group of community leaders who share the goal of a world where all can enjoy the fruits of that struggle 50 years ago and in which human rights are an everyday reality for all.” Mimi Kintzel, Public Relations Officer for the Church of Scientology of Tampa stated.
The afternoon started with a meet and greet in the Public Information area of the Church of Scientology of Tampa where Public Service Announcements of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights produced by The Church were playing. After the reception, guests were treated to local actor Brian Ward’s dramatization of Dr. King’s speech beginning with the historic words:
“When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men -- yes, black men as well as white men -- would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Dr. King stated in his speech at our Nation’s Capital.
Mr. Ward’s rendition brought the group to tears, filled the room with “Amen”s and served as the foundation for the panel discussion of carrying on the dream in our local community.
Central to Scientology belief is a conviction that all humankind is entitled to inalienable rights. Inspired by Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard who said in 1963: “Human Rights must be made a fact not an idealistic dream.”
