Student protestors in London and Birmingham targeted Liberal Democrat offices “in opposition to student debt sell off” on Friday

In ‘actions’ organised by the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC), students in Birmingham briefly occupied MP John Hemming’s office; students in London protested outside the constituency offices of business secretary Vince Cable and deputy Lib Dem leader Simon Hughes.

The actions were against what NCAFC said in a statement would be a “vast and retroactive stealth hike in tuition fees” following the coalition government’s planned sell off of the student loan book over the next decade.

At around noon, students entered Hemming’s office in Birmingham and remained there for a number of hours.

Later in the day, about a dozen students briefly entered Vince Cable’s constituency office in Twickenham, southwest London, in an attempt to occupy it before being ushered out by staff. They then heckled Cable and attempted to block his entry when he arrived two hours later.
